Reidys Seabug
Submitted by twicther on Sun, 2012-03-04 07:51I came across the reidys seabug in Darwin and wondered if they have been given a workout by anyone down Perth way chasing Dhuies snapper etc., They seem to work well in the north on coral trout, rosey snapper and fingermark.

MAKING DEMERSAL ASSISTS - for Cahal
Submitted by ADDICT- dUFFMAN on Wed, 2012-02-29 14:10Hey guys was having a hard time explaining in words how to make demersal assists to a mate
so though id make a constructive post being sick and bed bound.
Firstly Picture 1 details what is needed:
- Varivas Assist cord 30
- Hooks- Decoy Pike Type-R Hooks are ideal -sizes 2/0 and 3/0 most common
Also Decoy Jigging single cutlass hooks - in 2/0 and 3/0 (Cutlass 3/0 hooks used in this demo) - Decoy Gp rings or Owner solid rings (size 5 approx) - Gp rings are prefered as they are 2.5 times stronger and the teardrop shape is advantageous when rigging
- Octopus/Squidly Skirts and lumo beads are optional but too much hassle imo
- Scissors and Lighter, and pointy nose pliers.
STEP 1: pass cord through eye as shown
STEP 2: begin uni knot around shank
STEP 3: 1 turn uni pictures
STEP 4: Complete a 3 turn uni
STEP 5: tighten always locking with spit!
STEP 6: lock with half hitch and spit again
STEP 7: nip this with pointy nose pliers
STEP 8: Measure approximate length of cord needed for a twin taking into account the knot and cut
STEP 9: Complete the same knot as in steps 1 to 6 on other hook
STEP 10: Align hooks at offset length and begin overhand knot
STEP 11: Complete overhand knot with saliva, this allows the hooks to sit nicely and provides a stopper for you skirt
STEP 12: Cut or make the smallest possible hole in the top of your skirt and pull the cord through with your hook point
STEP 13: Trim take ends and burn with lighter if your fussy like me and attached GP Ring
STEP 14: Go Hunt some fish!
Cheers Duffman - Please note this is not the only way its the way i have create and its triend and test on sambos and stood the test

Hi,
I currently have a PE2 outfit consisting of a Branzino 3000 matched to an Evergreen Poseidon Spin Jerker PSPJ603L. I am looking for a new rod to handle slightly bigger jigs 80-120g but also to be a bit more powerful than the Spin Jerker whilst using the same reel. From cruising the posts here it looks like the Major Craft Alexander AXS 60/3 could be a good choice, or maybe the size up 60/4. Unfortunately I am unable to have a look at any rods over here in the east. Can anyone give me a bit of advice on which rod would suit my requirements better, or even if there is another rod that might suffice. My mate has an Xzoga 6012 which seems pretty good too, but I do like the titanium guides on the Major Craft.
Cheers,
Simon

monster mesh max pe3-4 o/h with an accurate boss extreme 400n good combo?
Submitted by stevebw23 on Mon, 2012-02-20 17:35Hi everyone,
my current rod/reels are absolute tanks so i'm going to keep them for towing lures only and get myself a new setup that's jig friendly and a bit more fun to use.
after reading as much as i could in the search section about good jigging rods and reels i think i've decided on a monster mesh max (pe3-4 overhead) with an accurate boss extreme 400n. from what i've read, the monster mesh max rod sounds like they're a good value for money option (only $200) and the reel has a nice low ratio(4:1), smooth twin drag, enough line capacity for my needs and it looks like really good quality. i mainly fish around rottnest and out off two rocks in about 30-60m of water and plan on running some decent 50lb braid experimenting with all sorts of jigs.
can anyone comment on weather this would be a good jigging combo for demersals (i've never done jigging before) and occasional bottom bashing? Any opinions/suggestions would be great
Cheers,
Steve

Want to buy Spinning equipment but still in doubt. Help me please!
Submitted by ManRenas on Sat, 2012-02-11 17:38 Hi guys,
I want to buy a good Spinning combo. I'm a big game fisherman and my main targets are Dolphinfish, Sailfish, Blue Marlin, Tarpon, Jack Crevale and Cubera.
So, I want to buy a Shimano Stella to use with a 16 Lbs monofilament line. Which Stella should I use, the 8000SW or the 10000SW? And which is the best rod to use with that? I've been thinking about St. Croix LSWS70MF Legend Salt Spinning Rod / 7' / 15-30LB, G Loomis PBR844S / 7' / 15-30 Lb and G Loomis PBR843S / 7' / 12-25Lb.
And I also would like to know some good Poppers or Poppers Brands for that type of fish that can work with a 16 Lbs line.
Could any one give me some help with it?! I'm really struggling in making a decision.
Thank you very much.

Busso Area outfit
Submitted by Brad Y on Sun, 2012-02-05 17:41Just got myself a new tub and once I get all the gear- sounder/plotter, epirb, flares etc Im going to be doing a bit of running out towards wrights bank, the coral lumps, 8 mile reef even the wave buoy off yallingup.
Ive passed my old braid concept jig rod onto a mate as he wanted it and I wantsomething a little different. It caught me a handful of good fish but was hard work when I hooked something decent.
Looking at the tcurve revolution vertical 20-30lb and running my saragosa 5000 with 30lb braid on it. Dhuies, Snapper, Nannies and all the usual demersals plus some smaller model YTK's and sambos. Also got a saragosa 18000 which I will be using on a custom popping stick up north but thought I would get an 80lb jig rod as well- for bigger sambos and kingies. Thinking the same tcurve but in 65-80lb strength.
Would love some opinions on these rods.
Also if anyone is looking for a deckie or wants to do a bit of a convoy out deep over the coming months please let me know.
Cheers

jugging techniques and best type of jigs?
Submitted by Gaffatron on Thu, 2012-02-02 15:49hey all,
kind of new to deep sea fishing and want to start jigging had a few sambos follow some smaller fish up to the boat, so dropped down a octo jig let it hit the bottom cranked it up about 10m and then let it sink again and followed that for a few mins with no luck so i decided to wind it in and as i retrieved it a sambo followed it all the way up and about 3m before the boat took off back down to the bottom, is there any tips you guys can give me, is the way i am doing it correct? are octo jigs any good for sambos?

Reel advice
Submitted by jayce on Thu, 2012-01-26 11:35Gday all
Just chasing a bit of advice regarding a new reel.
I am looking at buying a new saragosa for demersal jigging. The reel will be going on a shimano trevala tvs70ml.
I am going to be running 30lb braid it and hoping to get between 250 to 300m on the reel.
Now the bit i am stuck with as i am new to jigging.
What size to go? I am stuck between the 4000 5000 and 6000. What are your opinions on what size would be better suited.
cheers

What Strength Wind-On?
Submitted by symetre on Sat, 2012-01-14 19:51Im heading over to Perth next Sambo season so starting to get some gear together.
I was curious as to how heavy is the standard wind-on leader being used on the charters is over there.... i was thinking 120lb or 150lb.... is this enough or as a general rule are you guys using heavier or lighter wind-ons?
Im specifically talking the charters here... so deep water sambo jigging.
Appreciate any opinions.

Video of demersal jigging technique?
Submitted by Grooveepants on Sun, 2011-12-18 12:06Hi,
Has anyone posted or know of a post, or can post a video of the techique used for jigging demersals?
My mate and I bought some Caprice, Frankys, IMA Ro's, Pirates, etc and don't know what we are doing. Figured someone could share their technique on how to use these things. We've had a few hook-ups on Red Snapper, Flat Head, Seargent Bakers, but not on anything decent, whilst the rod with the bait is getting smashed so we know the fish are down there.
I'd like to do the switch over to jigs and not use bait but only if I know what I'm doing is correct.
Things a video should cover is:
Speed of retrieve
Speed of lift
Height the jig is raised off the bottom before being let back down
Length of pause between lifts (if there is a pause)
etc.
If there are different techniques for different jig types and also for plastics this would also be good to show.
I would have thought some of the tackle store owners would have already put some videos up as this would surely increase their jig sales. Obviously show them catching fish using the different techniques would also be nice as sometimes I feel like I'm being told a load of porkys by the person on the other side of the counter ;-)
I think this would help everyone who wants to get into jigging but are a bit reluctant.
Cheers in advance.

Opinon: Evergreen Poseidon vs Hots Fake Lez
Submitted by gofish on Mon, 2011-12-12 17:36Hey guys, will like to seek your opinion on the below mention jigging rods.
Hots Fake Lez 54M
Length:5.4feet LineWT: PE2.5-4 JERK MAX:200g
Evergreen Poseidon Spin Jerk PSPJ500
Length:5.0feet LineWT: PE3 JERK MAX:160g
(underrated rod - feel more like a PE4 rod)
I've managed to get hold and loaded both rods at my local tackle shops. Now the problem is at static there's
only that much I can observe and test.
I was hoping if any brothers out there have the opportunity to jig with them, kindly share with us how
they feel like while jigging; weight, hardiness, sensitivity, best suited jigging method and etc. Why you
might choose one over another.
My only concern with the poseidon is theres are rumous going around that their blanks are brittle and are not
as abusive, break under load. Can anyone justify that.
Cheers for all information. =)

Suitable rod for Stella 20000
Submitted by Cruise Control on Sat, 2011-12-03 12:52G'Day Guys
Looking for some help and guidance on a rod to suit a Stella 20000. The outfit will need to do a double act as a jigging rod up to 150m on 50 lb braid plus be able to do some bottom bashing for demersals.
I guess the main thing that I am looking for is a lightweight rod that I can use without breaking my back
There is such a range out there that I am struggling to zero in on something suitable. Looking to pay around the $300 or so mark, am I in the ballpark or am I dreaming ? Anybody out there that can assist who is in a similar situation.
Cheers

as said in my wanted post , it's for sambo's too , so if it were a jigging master rod , d'ya think the 350g would cover it? (80lb line)

jerry brown 100lb hollow spectra
Submitted by wade stenhouse on Tue, 2011-11-01 20:58hey guys im in the process of buying a new stella 20000sw and will be using it for heavy jigging and popping, im thinking about spooling it up with jerry brown 1oolb hollow core spectra and was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this braid or thoughts about the hollow core wether or not it will still be ok for jigging and casting. the diameter specs ive found for it are .43mm so will roughly get about 450m on the reel and i can get it in a 600yard spool and it is quite cheap, so any thoughts about this braid? yay or nay?

Rod Decisions for Saltiga 4000
Submitted by ADDICT- dUFFMAN on Mon, 2011-10-31 22:29Hey all,
I recently bought a new 2010 Saltiga 4000, its loaded with PE3 Varivas Big one (max 48lb).
I went sambo jigging last week and matched it with a PE6-8 Demonblood
Looking to flog that as it didnt match it well and need a rod better suited.
Looking for a rod thats heavy enough to be able to land max of 40kg Sambos
but also to use for demersals. Desired length 5'8 -6'2" rated Pe 3-4 or 4-6
An ideal rod is the new saltiga SG60S-3/4F but it is very costly and if anyone could suggest an cheaper alternative that'd be good.
Cheers for the replys Guys
