Re: How to get the fishing mojo back - Take up carpentry - NFR Pic Heavy
Submitted by sarcasm0 on Mon, 2014-08-11 23:08Well, I have been pretty busy lately, working and doing some projects to make the house a home, I thought I might share.
1-3. Kitchen Ladder Project - Place to hang pots and pans, free up cupboard space.
4. Bathroom hanger Project - Make thing to hide marks in wall from old cistern and remount toilet roll holder.
5. Original Timber - Coffee table project. We decided to buy a new couch and nearly died at the cost of a coffee table to match. So I made one with the help of some borrowed and some bought tools, Jane and my fathers help. Material is Jarrah 17 x 105mmx40mm x ~1200mm kiln dried and dressed $346 from aus west timber orrong rd. Total material cost, timber, biscuits, glue, biscuit joiner, fancy router bit, sandpaper, turps, brushes, rollers, bondall monocel satin is less than $500. I already had a circular saw, drop saw, router, planer, belt sander, mouse sander, set square, chisel, hammer, drill etc.
6. Top Cut Lengths
7. Biscuit slots cut and ready for glue
8. Biscuit Joiner - Winning !
9. Cutting Leg Slots for the tray
10. Tray and leg clamp
11-13 Top - First Varnish
14 Top - Second Coat
15-20 Coffee Table and new couch together at last.
Thanks for reading.

Submitted by petermac on Mon, 2014-08-11 22:14i have had heaps of pms asking what the outcome was after my dog deisel latched onto a cop , well what happened was a council ranger turned up with a notice to take possesion of my dog . I asked what was going to happen and he said they would be shooting him .I hit the roof and said like f### he would be , he said he had to be put down so he followed me to Waikiki vets and I had him put down by needel and i cryed as he passed away . if that copper had just let me get out of the car all would have been good .8 years ago i carried a cop that had been knocked out in the Mermaid hotel Dampier during a brawl to safety not sure i would do it again now

Anti reverse roller bearing lubrication?
Submitted by scano on Wed, 2014-08-06 21:07Hi everyone,
I recently serviced one of my reels and did the usual complete strip down / clean everything with white spirits and brake cleaner, reassemble with quality grease on the gears and oiled all bearings ect.
i was wondering what people normally do for servicing and lubricating anti reverse bearings (for a spin reel I mean) located just below the rotor head assembly. I know that if anti reverse assemblies are over oiled they can start to slip and not function correctly.
so if you do a strip down of a reel and you clean out the anti reverse bearings of any debris or foreign particles do you slightly grease the small roller bearings? Or give them a very light oiling? After all the do still rotate around a small rounded collar that attaches to the rotor shaft.
if anyone can shed some light on the best options for libricating or basic servicing for this particular reel part that would be great.

Exmouth - October Boating Weather
Submitted by Janda on Mon, 2014-08-04 20:15Oh learned travellers....
Planning a 2 week trip to exmouth in early October (school holidays) and chasing some info on expected weather at that time of the year from those that have been up there.
We typically head up to Kalbarri & Shark Bay at that time of the year and generally find the weather a bit hit and miss for boating/fishing (small 16ft runabout with kids on board - so generally have to settle for pretty calm weather).
Not sure if I can justify dragging the boat all the way to exmouth for a few decent days, so hoping for a "heads up" on weather conditions.
Thank guys.

Goat shoot
Submitted by carnarvonite on Sun, 2014-08-03 15:49Went out for a shoot with a mate to get some goats to feed his bloody great Irish Wolfhounds.
Finished up with 7 and a half including a couple of nice big billys. The half is the bit that really gave me the shits big time. We came up to a turkeys nest dam and as we circled it a nanny stood up and instantly we could see it was injured so the 243 put it out of its misery. On closer inspection it showed it had been chewed up around the hind legs and somehow had escaped the dog that bit it. No problem, skin and gut it and cut out all the bruising because it was going to go through a mincer anyway. Not 2 km further down the track we come across a dead goat obviously pulled down by a dog, shot, then left to rot, no doubt for someone's sport? The probabilities of a wild dog in that country are small so expect someone in town who has a good knowledge of the station and its tracks are doing their very best to get everyone else banned from shooting there.
Sorry, no pics, never even thought of taking a camera, though the two real big billys would have made fine trophy shots.
Final score, mate with the 243, 7 and a half, me with 1947 Lithgow hornet nothing but who cares, as long as there is something in the icebox who cares who got it, same goes when fishing.

1999 Toyota hilux ?
Submitted by dakka on Sat, 2014-08-02 21:34Howdy all
i have just bought a 1999 Toyota hilux duel cab 3l turbo diesel
i have one issue with it the bloody heaters don't blow hot air going to work at 5 in the morning with no heating sux big time this time of year. The engine temp sits just under halfway so I would say the thermostat is working and I can't see any heater hoses leaking. So is there anything else I should look at as to why it's not blowing hot air any info would be great

AFL Footy Draft Lottery
Submitted by new age on Thu, 2014-07-31 07:01What do you reckon about introducing a draft lottery to help fight against tanking? Every club in the AFL has a chance to win the #1 pick, albeit the teams that finish last have a significantly greater chance than the teams that finish in the top of the ladder (like 1% vs 45%). Just like in some of the US leagues like the NHL, each club has a certain number of tickets in a raffle depending on where they finished. I think the raffle also determines the order of the draft for the teams that did not get the #1 pick, so as far as I'm aware, if you finish last, you might not get a pick until later in the top 5 choices depending on how the draft order plays out with the lottery.
i think it would be a huge measure to fight against tanking because the last few teams would each have a big chance of getting the highest pick- but not guaranteed. With the way things currently are, if you don't Win the flag you may as well finish last and have all the best players in the country without any risk.
what do you think?

trailer help!
Submitted by mattycutters on Wed, 2014-07-30 16:24hi I recently purchased a 12 foot fiberglass dingy with trailer ect
noticed the bearings need doing so I took them off and took the hub to my local trailer place and he informed me they are off a valiant car over 30 years ago and are unreplacable
he said my only option is to buy a new axle new hub and new bearings with new u bolts ect. my question is that is gonna cost me 250 plus the person to do it is 2 hours labour which is gonna cost me 160 so im looking at 410 all up instead of a cheap 50 or so I thought it would cost
does anyone have any suggestions? how much am I looking at roughly for a new trailer or second hand? is it worth reparing? I only paid 1200 all up and don't really wanna keep throwing money into it

Should i be in 4th or 5th gear when towing a boat ?
Submitted by Paul N on Sun, 2014-07-27 10:34Just changed car to a 76 series v8 turbo diesel landcruiser having had a petrol GU Patrol in the past . Have towed the 3ton boat to Exy 10 times with the patrol and due to lack of grunt I always stayed in 4th gear . The new car has lots more power being turbo diesel and could probably tow in 5th without any effort .
The question is - should I tow in 5th gear . A lot of the 4x4 forums say its not a good idea to tow in 5th as it will destroy the gearbox . Mainly designed as an overdrive and should remain in 4th when towing. Not sure why myself.
For those with manual gearboxes , what do you use ?

what did you do to make your dinghy more comfortable?
Submitted by Anonymous on Sat, 2014-07-26 07:38I have a quintrex fishseeker 4.5m dinghy... I live in mandurah so its a perfect boat for what we do, plenty of crabbing during the summer & fishing when ever we can... at the moment I have the normal bench seats, being a dinghy as you probably already know they can be a bit harsh on your back... I will be upgrading the boat one day but not anytime soon... I was wondering what people have done to make their boat more pleasurable when it gets a little choppy to stop the jarring.. seats would probably be a big improvement but how did you go securing them to the thin skin of the existing bench seat. I have also thought about a underfloor fuel tank approx 70lt (currently have the 25lt plastic in the back) did you notice much of a difference after doing this? anyway any feedback or ifeas much appreciated.

Quitiin smokes?
Submitted by BoozeFishSnooze on Sat, 2014-07-26 00:25I'm pretty sure there would be a few ex smokers on fw, how did you do it? Was it cold turkey or slowing down till you ended up not even wanting one? One of the reason for the question is because I can ignore the urge most of the time but what kicks me is around friends even though most don't smoke. But post any tips on givin up the old death sticks haha,
