These things are everywhere!
Submitted by EricBananaMan on Fri, 2014-05-23 22:46 Took the skids for a whiting fishing expedition at hearsons cove this arvo and this was caught first cast by one of the boys. My youngest wanted to put it in the esky and take it home. I had one take a liking to my favourite squid jig the other day in marnie bay. They seem to be everywhere at the moment. Got a good feed of whiting which was a plus.

Colorado VS Ranger
Submitted by jayce on Fri, 2014-05-23 12:47Hi All
I know there is plenty of topics on these two vehicles already but none have the info i am after.
I am looking into buying my self a new ute and upgrading from the 2011 hilux as they are probably the worst tow vehicle on the market.
I have narrowed my choices down to the New colorado and the new Ranger. Both can tow the same amount and from what i have read they do it easily. My boat weighs around 2T so should be pretty safe there and have a bit of room to go bigger when i upgrade the boat later on.
The info i am after is more the 4wd capabilities of the 2 vehicles. I do alot of driving out the bush and into some remote beachs. After any feedback about this from people who own and use them.
Cheers Jayce

Surf reel advice
Submitted by gav1970 on Wed, 2014-05-21 19:48I'm looking at getting myself a new surf reel and was thinking about a Saltiga surf 6000, but the other day I saw a couple of youtube vids on the new Ultegra ci4 14000 xtb and they looked quite good and are at least a couple of hundred cheaper.
Does anyone own or has anyone used one of these? Any info or advice would be appreciated.

Any suggestions of small trucks to tow 4500kgs on a normal license under 4500GVM ?
Any suggestions for one that could be kitted up as a camper tow truck?
Is a F250 the way to go ?

Remington rifle recall
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Tue, 2014-05-20 11:29Might be some shooters here who this applies to:
"Remington has determined that some Model 700 and Model Seven rifles with XMP triggers could under certain circumstances, unintentionally discharge. A Remington investigation has determined that some XMP triggers might have excess bonding agent used in the assembly process. Remington is undertaking a recall in the interest of consumer safety."

Gear ratio
Submitted by EricBananaMan on Mon, 2014-05-19 12:20G'day members. This probably is a dumb question and may have been discussed in the past, but what is the best reel gearing for choosing a reel. For instance, the Stella 5000 has three models to choose from. Is the lower ratio better for bottom/jigging and the higher ratio for casting lures etc? I await your wisdom, smart arse comments and general helpfulness. Cheers.

Passed away this afternoon at 3 yrs old-looks like heart failure after the vet had a look, while laying in the sun on the patio.
No sign of distress, snake, or poison. I wouldnt have even known there was anything wrong except she didnt snap up as the door opened.

went for accidental swim this arvo
Submitted by petermac on Wed, 2014-05-14 18:54down at the point peron ramp this arvo , a bloke turns up and launches then pulls his trailer out to park in the car park , all of a sudden i notice his boat is drifting away from the ramp , the bloke is still on his way back from the car park. Jump out of my car and bolt to the ramp (well shuffle as fast as i can go these days) get to the boat and see the stern line line has come free,
by this time the bloke has seen what is happening and shouting to me to grab the boat (which is what i was doing ) he arrives and secures the bow , I lean out to grab the stern hand rail and then realise it was a bit too far off the ramp and and i cant pull the stern back to the ramp and my body weight is pushing the stern further away from the ramp
oh shit i am going for a swim i think and yes splash and i am in the drink , i climbed up boat ladder and get off the bow bloody water was freezing and i am shivering like a drowned rat , Boat owner is trying to stop himself laughing , then we both start laughing , "thanks for you help mate" he says " no worries" i say and walk back to my car thinking to myself thats another fine mess you got yourself into peter

Cattle warning
Submitted by carnarvonite on Wed, 2014-05-14 13:25Anyone thinking of travelling at night north of Billabong should seriously consider doing that stretch in daylight. I did a run up to the Blowhole road yesterday afternoon and saw at least 40 cattle grazing on the roadside and one of the tow truck drivers had to go down the other side of Wooramel in the early hours to pick a vehicle up that had collected a roo and he said that he couldn't get over 80km until 70km south of Carnarvon and had to back off again 30km north of Wooramel because of cattle and roos on the road.
The truck he was driving has brilliant lights but even they weren't good enough to pick up some of the cows.
I certainly don't want to have to drive down and pick up another fishwrecked member's car after they have collected an animal, its not a nice way to meet people.
