Seeing Eye Dog Needed for Charter Boat Skipper!
Submitted by Mick C on Sat, 2014-04-05 11:41Unbelievable experience this morning. Went out early on first light as the weather was good. Set up on 3 Mile using the Minn Kota Spot Lock and got the home made burley out. Had all the lights going (side and anchor) as the rules say you must when the sun is not up – although it was starting to get light and you could clearly see for a few kilometres. Saw this charter boat coming at us and bearing down. Watched him for a while and there was no course change as he got closer. Got out the 400,000 candle power spot light and flashed and flashed and flashed but still no change. When he was less than 100m away there was no other option but to start up and get the f&%k out of there. Good thing I had the Minn and not an anchor as there were not many seconds in it – although the poor Minn had to be subject to 0 to 15kn in an instant. No doubt the patrons (it was packed) got a shock as this barrage of expletives fired their way as the adrenaline fired up the voice box. To make matters worse the Pinks were on and he went straight over the top of my spot.
I have no idea who he was but I would say a course in remedial navigation is certainly on the cards. Lesson 1 – watch where the f%*k you are going. I could understand it if we were doing something wrong but this wasn’t the case. My only thought was he had Ocean Ramsay on the boat and was going out to find some sharks, hence was a little distracted.
I didn’t get the name of the boat other than it starts with an M and leaves from Hillarys Marina. I don’t know if anyone else has had a similar experience with this guy but I would probably like to tell him myself how close he came to killing me and my boy, and destroying my boat, because he just wasn’t watching where he was going.

Am I being shafted by a fellow forum member
Submitted by dalaisc on Sat, 2014-04-05 06:57I agreed to a trade "my combo for his" and we had to arrange and pay for freight. I sent mine but I've been contacted by other member who tells me that he received a call from his courier saying that package was delivered to my home but as no one was available to collect they were sending it back to him. He wants me to now pay freight to have it sent back to me.
I am in Bali at present and sender knows this.
The reason I am sceptical is because discussions started on the 21 March. I have asked on a number of occasions to confirm package was sent, company details and tracking number. I was told package was sent but no company or tracking details sent.
if package was sent in a timely manner it would have arrived prior to me leaving for Bali. When I was informed that package was not sent in time to get to me before I left I pm'ed and emailed user a number of occasions asking for company details and tracking number so that I could make arraignments for someone else to collect or to hold package for me until I return. I even asked sender on a few occasions to contact company to make them aware I was away and cannot collect until I return.
I very much doubt that a company would return package to sender after one attempt to deliver. They normally leave a slip in the mail box asking receiver to arrange collection.
Thoughts, am I being shafted.

Coral Bay Fuel
Submitted by SEAFORCE CORAL BAY on Tue, 2014-04-01 22:39There has been a few asking about it lately so here is a update.
The old servo outside the People Park shop is now shut, but the good news is that the new one is now open. At the end on Banksia road, where you turn off to go to the boat ramp. There is what they are calling the temp fule supply, but the odds are it will be the permanent fule supply. Ther are two bowsers, both with diesel and 95 U/L. It is unmaned card type. You can only buy fuel with credit cards or caltex star cards. So if you are planing a trip up this way make sure you have a card that will work. The good news is that it is the cheapest I have seen fuel in town for a long time. 169.3 for diesel and 184.3 for U/L, but not sure if it will stay that way for long. It may of just been the prices the bowsers happen to be set to when they where installed. There is no dedicated bowser for commercial use now, but one of the diesel pumps are high flow, so at least I will only hold everyone up for half and hour insted of two hours when filling up the 1500L tank for the boat.

HID upgrades to vehicle lights
Submitted by Cruise Control on Mon, 2014-03-31 16:40Rather than hijack Bodies thread, I thought I would ask the question in a new one.
Are you able to legally upgrade your standard vehicle lights to HID ? I have been reading a fair bit about this and cant really find a definitive answer. I can get an upgrade for my 100 Series to 35w 4300k HID globes for well under $300. All plug and play with the standard wiring. Doubles the light output to headlights that are already quite good but could do with just a bit extra.
Appreciate any advice as want to see the wildlife better but not attract Mr Plods attention.
cheers

Stolen Boat
Submitted by knackers63 on Sun, 2014-03-30 09:24G'day ladies and gents, Last night some mongrel stole the Poppy, from Warnbro. Took boat and trailer. It was not currently insured. They took the fuel container about a month ago. It has been reported but if anybody sees her it would be appreciated if they could please send a message. Husband is obviously pretty upset as this was his link to the best bloke in the world who raised him.

boat ramp antics
Submitted by petermac on Sat, 2014-03-29 18:58a post today got me thinking about the stuff seen at the ramp, the most funny but also sad thing I have seen at a ramp was at the Dampier public ramp , I was just coming in and noticed my work superintend was on the other side of the ramp shouting and screaming at his wife, I shouted to him to hang on and I would give him a hand , he just shouted back stay out of this you f### , had to laugh as his wife lets go of his boat and his beautiful Berty starts drifting away so the superintendent starts swimming after it then I really pissed my self when his wife walked down the ramp pulled the keys out of his 80 series cruiser and heaved them into the water , F### him she said as she walked past me

Land Cruiser Spot lights
Submitted by Bodie on Thu, 2014-03-27 15:21Chasing a little info on spot lights for a new land cruiser I just picked up.
I don't know a lot about them, so anyone who can provide some recommendations on experience would be great.
I mainly would be using for towing the boat up north, down south etc, not so much for serious off road. Cruiser is white in colour with a Genuine Toyota Alloy bulbar, so thinking chrome spotties would be best.
Don't want to spend ridiculous amounts of money and don't want stupidly large spotties either (In size), currently looking at the Hella FF 4000 Compact spotties in Chrome.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

Two Rocks Beach Access
Submitted by DTrain on Thu, 2014-03-27 14:50I saw this mentioned on another forum. It seems like yet another kick in the groin to the 4wding/fishing community.
I believe there is still access through Wilbinga Grove off Wanneroo Road, but that would make for a pretty long trip just to get down to the beach for a fish.
http://www.wanneroo.wa.gov.au/Planning/Temporary_Closure_of_Dewars_Beach_Access_Track
- The Dewars Beach access track at the end of Damepattie Drive in Two Rocks has been temporarily closed from the morning of Friday 21 March 2014.
- A number of different barriers have been installed to restrict access and signage has also been installed to notify of the closure.
- Council will consider the ongoing closure of the track at its forthcoming meeting. The key reason for the closure of the track is the high risk of serious vehicle collisions, not only on the track itself but also on the beach.
- With a growing local population and an increasing numbers of families now using these beaches for swimming, four-wheel-driving can simply not continue.
- The community is advised to use alternative locations such as 'The Spot" off Two Rocks Road for surfing.
- Off roaders should use only approved off road vehicle sites. The City's Rangers can provide brochures to show where these are or refer to the off-road vehicles information on the City of Wanneroo website.
- City Rangers and police will be in the area on a regular basis and adopt a zero-tolerance approach to anyone caught breaking the law, which prohibits driving on City beaches.
- The City is also working with adjoining landowners and developers to ensure that other potential access areas are monitored, and to educate drivers on the laws relating to 4WD access on beaches.
- Brochures containing information about legal off-road driving and vehicles are available from the City of Wanneroo Civic Centre, 25 Dundebar Rd and are also available on the City of Wanneroo website's off-road vehicles information page.

Lost boat
Submitted by carnarvonite on Wed, 2014-03-26 18:54Got a call this afternoon of a boat that had broken its mooring last night? and gone missing from Gnaraloo bay.
They have had southerly winds of around 25+ knots up there for the last couple of days and when they went to check they found a 7.2 metre boat missing. Not sure of the details on whether it has dragged the anchor or snapped it off but suspect it will be up towards Cape Farquar or thereabouts
Not a nice thing to wake up to.
