Seabird report
Submitted by sea-kem on Wed, 2011-12-28 16:20Had our first serious fish yesterday. Stopped first in 20m and the line was hit before I even had a chance to set the drag. A cranking 7 kg Sambo that nearly tore my arms off. Next was a Pinkie at 550 mm. Headed out a bit wider and hooked into another stonking Pinkie at 670mm. No Dhuies yet but heading out tomorrow for an even more serious session. The new Furuno is a treat and still fiddling with the settings but already loving it.Sorry no pics a s we left the camera behind.

Disgusting mess of unbelievable amount of dead blowies left at Keene st jetty
Submitted by tailor marc on Mon, 2011-12-26 22:34Went for a fish/ crab this arvo and just about fell over with shock and the terrible smell of how many blowies were slaughtered. As much as i hate them i think this is wrong. They have a place in the river ( help keep it clean) and arent an introduced species like some think and to leave them on the jetty like this will only give us all a bad name . Couple pics for yaz....

Christmas food
Submitted by sarcasm0 on Mon, 2011-12-26 06:59Last year there was a christmas food post that was pretty cool. Come on Jamie, Alfred and others, show us how christmas went down this year!
Ill start it off with my Turkey in the webber cooked by Proxy. Jane and I prepared the bird the evening before much to the directions here : http://www.heatbeads.com.au/recipe/the-heat-beads%C2%AE-christmas-turkey/
But with our own secret herbs and spice stuffing mix. We had a breakfast to go to so we left the cooking to my bro and I reckon it came out sweet.

reffited the boat
Submitted by greatrex on Sun, 2011-12-25 11:20just my project over the last two weeks. the main fuel tank was stuffed so it had to be cut out and remade. i found that the front section of the floor was rotten and letting water sit in the hull so had to turn it into a self draining hull and replace the floor and glass it back together. i decided it need a new paint job thats made it look like a million bucks now. new wiring to everything was done. the boat is now ready to be sold at the end of summer although open to any offers if interested. the total cost of every was only $750 as everything was done by myself.
cheers andrew.

dickheads on the road
Submitted by saltydog on Sat, 2011-12-24 21:29Well it beats the crap out of me why some idiots do what they do.
Tonight just after 8pm I went across the road with my 3yr old girl to see the nativity lights at a local church.
Walking back home crossed the street and this dickhead in a silver holden/ford hsv/fpv style sedan
comes screaming down the road. With my girl in my arms I turn around and even before I'm 2m from the curb
they are upon us.
Just before they are about 20m away he kills the lights and buzzes us then he turns his lights on
again when he's out of range for me to read his plates.
My blood has just started to simmer after friggin boiling.
I will be looking out for the prick and revenge will be silent!

Car and house theft
Submitted by allrounder on Fri, 2011-12-23 20:01Just a heads up, and a can you please keep an eye out post.
A close freinds house was robbed in wembley downs on monday. They believe it was a group of girls. Most of the stuff stolen was small jewellery items, computers, perfume and dresses. They also stole the spare keys to a green nissan patrol rego number KM36559 that they loaded everything into to take away. The car has not been located as yet so if you see one abandoned please pm me. It all took place on monday. They must of been in the house for a fair amount of time as the keys had been fairly well hidden. They also had to be fairly sure no one was at home as two cars are parked in the drive. Well only one now. They were lucky as none of the xmas pressies for the kids got touched they just took the ones that had alcohol in them. Again if you live in the area take care of your gear and if you see the car let me know Cheers and i hope you all have a better xmas than they have.

The new Tub
Submitted by southcity104 on Thu, 2011-12-22 15:14On tuesday i finalized the deal, a new boat for many seasons to come. Shes a 07 Cruise Craft 575 Outsider with a suzuki 140 4stroke. Comes with most options and bridges the gap of family and serious rec craft. Even chem toilet for the Ladies!
I was nervous selling the Jackman and regretting it until today but after an impressive run off rotto today in shite conditions my resevations are long gone. I was easily able to maintain 17 to 20 knots in foul seas in all directions.
Cheers to all those who helped in the decision and Jaime for examining every square inch of the boat in the inspection.
Im now busy getting the transducer mounting ready for out wide and some name decals after christmass
She'll be called "Princess May"
Feel free to come along side if you see us out on the brine.
anyways enjoy

Missing Divers Found - a story of stupidity
Submitted by Iceman on Thu, 2011-12-22 07:49Missing boat found off Ocean Reef
UPDATE 4.45pm: Two men have been found safe and well after a search was launched when their boat failed to return to Ocean Reef this afternoon.
The pair of divers had left the company of a second vessel to go cray diving about 1.5km offshore and found their boat had drifted away when they returned to the surface after a dive.
The men spend three hours in water awaiting rescue and were picked up by passing vessel Go Dolphin.
A search for the men was launched this afternoon after the occupants of the second boat called for help when they were unable to contact the pair.
A police helicopter, water police and two volunteer sea rescue boats were involved in the search.
The men were well aside from some sunburn.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I recieved the call at 3.10pm advising we had missing divers 5km of Ocean Reef.
By 4.45pm they had been picked up and all was well.
But what transpired before then begs belief and shows the hight of stupidity out there.
2 boats went out, one with one person on board (diver). the other boat had one diver and 3 passengers who are complete novices at boating. Second boat drop the anchors and the skipper transfers to the first boat. So now we have 2 divers on one boat and 3 passengers (novices) left on the other. The divers advise the novices they are going a bit further north for a dive.
After 2 1/2 hours the novices have not heard from the diver so they ring one of the divers wives who call us in a mad panick
Police chopper, police boat and 2 rescue vessels are tasked to search.
Divers found by yacht and Water police locate divers boat which had drfited from the dive sight (not sure why). They had been treading water for 3 hours
one of our vessels is dispatched the boat with 3 novices onboard as they do not know how to start the engine. They do not even know where they are. We are able to get them the turn on the GPS and give us the coordinates. We locate them and one of our crew is transfered to the boat to bring it home.
All is well.
1. why were 3 novices left on the vessel who knew nothing about boating, or even how to use the radio? luckily for the divers they had the sense to call one of the wife. If someone comes out on my boat one of the first things I teach them is how to start the boat and how to use the radio.
2. Why did the divers not log on with sea rescue before diving? If they had not call us back within 5 minutes of their advised return time we would have started the search earlier and they would have been found sooner. They did not even log on when they left the marina. Are they afraid people might hear the co-ordinates where they are diving and dive the same location????? I always log on before each dive. that give me peace of mind that if for any reason I surface and no boat the rescue boats will be out looking for by a certain time.
In this situation I believe the skippers of both boats should loose their skippers Licences as they endangered the live of the 3 novices.
It is these types of situations that frustrates the hell out of me as a rescue volunteer and some people should not be allowed out on the water.

Merry Christmas
Submitted by Alan James on Wed, 2011-12-21 09:54I wanted to send some sort of holiday greeting to fishwrecked colleagues, but it is difficult in today's world to know exactly what to say without offending someone. So I met with my lawyer yesterday, and on advice I wish to say the following:
Please accept with no obligation , implied or implicit , my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non addictive, gender neutral celebration of the summer solstice holiday practiced with the most enjoyable traditions of religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the religious / secular persuasions and / or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.
I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2012 , but not without due respect for the calendar of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make our country great ( not to imply that Australia is necessarily greater than any other country ) and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.
By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms:
This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/ him or others and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. The wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.
Best Regards ( without prejudice )

Navigation markers now installed at Garden Island
Submitted by bod on Wed, 2011-12-21 09:52The Department of Transport (DoT) has completed the urgent installation of navigation markers at the entrance to Herring Bay at Garden Island.
DoT Marine Safety Acting Director Operations Ray Buchholz said the project was fast tracked after discussions with members of the local boating community who raised safety concerns following the removal of unofficial markers in October.
DoT approved funding of $80,000 for the project from its current capital works budget and contracted Transfield Services to install a network of new markers on the north western end of Garden Island to guide vessels through the outer reef into Herring Bay.
“Herring Bay is a popular spot for recreational boating. However, the same extensive reef system that shelters the bay also makes it extremely challenging for skippers to navigate in the area,” Mr Buchholz said.
“The new markers are located in waters controlled by the Department of Defence which gave approval for the installation.”
DoT has worked closely with the Garden Island Fishing and Aquatic Association (GIFAA), Rockingham Sea Search and Rescue, Boating WA and the Department of Defence to install the markers.
Mr Buchholz said the cooperation of all parties had significantly assisted in meeting the challenge to complete the installation prior to Christmas and a busy summer holiday season on the water.
“While the new markers will greatly improve access and safety in the area, boat owners should continue to navigate the area with caution,” Mr Buchholz said.
The markers will be maintained by DoT as part of its network of 1,400 navigation aids around WA.

tuesday funny
Submitted by Timmo on Tue, 2011-12-20 09:38Cletus & Billy Bob
Cletus is passing by Billy Bob's hay barn one day when, through a gap
in the door, he sees Billy Bob doing a slow and sensual striptease in front
of an old green John Deere.
Buttocks clenched, he performs a slow pirouette, and gently slides
off first the right strap of his overalls, followed by the left. He then
hunches his shoulders forward and in a classic striptease move, lets his
overalls fall down to his hips, revealing a torn and frayed plaid shirt.
Then, grabbing both sides of his shirt, he rips it apart to reveal his
stained T-shirt underneath. With a final flourish, he tears the T-shirt from
his body, and hurls his baseball cap onto a pile of hay.
Having seen enough, Cletus rushes in and says, "What the world're ya
doing, Billy Bob?"
"Good grief, Cletus, ya scared the bejeebers out of me," says an
obviously embarrassed Billy Bob.
"But me 'n the wife been havin trouble lately in the bedroom
d'partment, and the therapist suggested I do something sexy to
a tractor."
(Don't make me come splain this to you! Read the last line again.... slowly.)

Was thinking pipe clamps and some pvc tubing, and wrapping them in canvas or something?
what do you do ? What protective gear do you recommend?
