Still need a new job!!
Submitted by Dale on Thu, 2009-08-20 18:37Well I've had a good 2 months off since leaving Iluka but now it's time to get a job. I'm still in Busso and hoping for a fly in fly out job at the mines someplace. I've got a few nibbles happening at present but I'm still hoping something comes. I'm doing my Marcsta tomorrow and my cert 4 in Training and Assessing next week, so if anyone can put me onto to something I'd really appreciate that. I'm looking for a process technician / fixed plant operator position or something similar.
Cheers

Stainless steel fabricator NOR
Submitted by alfred on Tue, 2009-08-18 23:53Hey folks, any of you work stainless steel NOR? Have a SS bench with one small sink and one big sink and would like to know if the small one can be cut out and a bigger one welded in? Work needs to be done on site as the bench can't be moved.
Revenge
Submitted by carnarvonite on Tue, 2009-08-18 19:48These are some of many shots taken of mate Colin[Cooda] at Gnaraloo years back.He was pestering me to get a shot of his reds that so he reckoned were that heavy you needed a wheelbarrow to carry the negatives[you didn't have digital cameras then].So one way to fix him was to cut the fish out of the frame--not a happy chappy when he finally got to see it.
But after all this time I will show one of the fish just after it came on board and ,yes,he did finally forgive me
For those who have been there, the shearing shed in the back ground was still the same in 91

Lake closed after fish bites woman
Submitted by Colin Hay on Mon, 2009-08-17 15:44Lake Alexander will be closed for two days while council workers try to remove dangerous large fish. (Google Maps)
Map: Darwin 0800
It is usually saltwater crocodiles that force the closure of popular swimming areas in the Northern Territory.
But Darwin City Council has decided to close one in the Top End capital because of the danger posed by a large fish which recently bit a woman on the foot.
The woman suffered minor lacerations as a result of the incident, which occurred at Lake Alexander in the Darwin suburb of East Point.
"Instances where large fish are a problem in the lake are very rare, but when they occur we must act to ensure the safety of the community, " the council's chief executive, Brendan Dowd, said.
The lake will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday this week so that council officers can remove the large fish.
Mr Dowd says traps and long lines will be set and all efforts will be made to capture the fish alive so they can be released into the ocean.

Man done for DUI in golf cart
Submitted by Colin Hay on Mon, 2009-08-17 10:52Police have charged a Northern Territory man with drink-driving after he was allegedly found cruising along a footpath in a golf cart more than two kilometres from the nearest golf course.
The 28-year-old man, who owns the buggy, was pulled over at 1am by police in Katherine, about 300 kilometres south of Darwin.
Police say he recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.14 per cent.
He allegedly told police he thought getting home in his golf cart would be safer than driving his car .
The man has been charged with medium range drink-driving and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Submitted by Bluebonefamily on Sun, 2009-08-16 16:59Hi we really like this forum and have decided to join.
We have a small tinny car topper and a 26ft glass boat named Bluebone. We love to go out in Cockburn Sound squidding, fishing for whiting and flat head around Garden and Carnac, and get out in our boat as often as we can. Last school hols we took the kids to Coral Bay and Exmouth. They loved the Spangled Emperor at Coral Bay Beach. Any way we hope to be able to add to this great site

Round OZ Kayakker Reaches Carnarvon
Submitted by carnarvonite on Sun, 2009-08-09 21:08In excellent weather when one should have been out fishing we set out to give an early welcome to Freya, who is paddling her kayak around OZ.Not having radio contact and only a message to expect a phonecall when she was an hour out.
After a bit of driving round we spotted her about 2 miles north of the jetty and escorted her into the main boat harbour. The first thing on her mind was a nice hot shower.Sea Rescue president Gary Hornhardt and his wife Jill have offered her a place to stay while she is here.
Monday is a planned shopping day to stock up on supplies and depending on the forecast she hope to be away at sun up on Tuesday heading further down into the bay.

Beach launching advice - Cervantes
Submitted by kaney68 on Sat, 2009-08-08 11:45Just chasing some advice on beach launching, in particular at Cervantes.
I've fished up there with the father in law for the last 20+ years, on his boat, lanched with either his 4x4 or tractor.
Looking at possibly heading up during the September school holidays for a few days to a week and want to take and use my 5.10 Trailcraft Freestyle.
My towing vehicle is a Commodore.
I don't have access to a 4x4 and the in-laws tractor is out of action.
I know they have a sailing club, based up near the cray processing jetties - is there a ramp at this location ??
Alternatively was looking at launching with the dunnydoor, but thought best to use a swing down spare wheel (on boat trailer) with rope extension to the towbar.
I remember seeing these featured on a FWA video many moons ago..
Can anyone point me in the right direction to purchase one ?
By using this method with the dunnydoor, do you feel I should be able to pull the boat out of the drink without bogging....(maybe use track plates under the rear wheels)
Looking forward to the replies..
cheers,
Paul
