Mayors on one-way street to head-on collision

Sorry, this is not fishing related, but it did crack me up. It reminds me a little of the politics involving the fishing licence proposal.

Police in Paris are dealing with traffic anarchy after the mayors of two feuding suburbs declared the same busy street one-way - but in opposite directions.

There was chaos among bemused drivers at the point where the rival systems converged, with all traffic forced down one side road.

The confusion followed a decision by the Mayor of Levallois who wanted to introduce a one-way system to free up traffic through his borough.

Fearing an overspill into his district, the Mayor of Clichy, Gilles Catoire, brought in a one-way system running the opposite direction.

The local prefect, representing the French state, has issued a decree ordering the immediate return of two-way traffic in Clichy, accusing its Mr Catoire of provoking serious disorder.

Mr Catoire is refusing to back down, saying he will challenge the decision in court.

the RAT out wide

Well I got a call from Malcolm at Men on boats Friday asking me if I would like to join Andrew (commodore marine) Tim and himself for a fish out of Mindarie on board the new eight meter centre cab the Rat .Well I’m not one to knock back a trip out fishing, so the answer was yes .We meet up with Andy Mac down at the ramp and headed out in the two boats for some fishing. The Rat was an impressive boat, with a tone of fishing room front and rear, well set up for the fisherman .and the turbo diesel cruised along at between 24-30 knots didn't seem to be working at all. Jesse through Andrew some future ideas he may like to include in his next boat ,not too sure if they have the technology yet be who knows ,maybe one day we will be crossing the water in a nitro charged boat at 300knots..Jesse tried hard all day to chip the gel coat with his sinker but that glass is strong stuff. No fish were caught to speak of with a couple of dhuies and a snapper being released ,but still a great day out .In all a very large roomy fishing platform with some great features ,A top day fellers Thanks Andrew and Malcolm for the invite ,and good luck with the new boats Cheers Paul and Jesse G

Australian Surfcasting Federation

The ASF (Australian Surfcasting Federation) will be holding a casting competition on Saturday, 12th September starting at 08:30 am.

The competition will be held at the Yarloop oval, about 1 3/4 hours drive south of Perth, or closer if you live southside, and will finish no later than 2:00 pm.

All casting weights will be supplied and a new 7 ft rod will be up for the winner of the longest cast on the day who is not a current member of the ASF . Leader line will also be supplied.

Weights cast start at 50 grams and increase by 25 gram increments up to 175 grams.

Monofilament only is used with specific diametres for the various weights. eg: 50, 75 & 100 gram require a minimum diametre of 0.25 mm, 125 gram requires minimum diametre of 0.28 mm, 150 gram requires minimum diametre of 0.30 mm & 175 gram requires minimum diametre of 0.35 mm.  For safety reasons, a leader of minimum diametre 0.75 mm is required with a minimum number of 6 turns on the spool when casting.

Yarloop is a Historic Timber Town and there is an interesting tour available of the Engineering Workshops that used to manufacture steam trains for the industry. Their cafe/restaraunt is excellent. It would make a very nice day out for the family.

Very laid back and relaxing. I look forward to seeing you there.

Any inquiries, please feel free to contact me at:

Trailerless boat transport

Why waste money on a trailer when you can transport your dingy like this?

Epribs

After hearing about the blokes off Esperance who were in the drink, who's Eprib went off and was detected by Sea rescue in NSW, it prompted me to think about finding out that my eprib was actually registered correctly.

I submitted the forms when i bought it with boat name and details etc... but never actually checked to make sure everything was ok.

Anyone know how or who i can check this thrugh???

Thought it might be interesting for others too, as i for one had not thought about it until now.

Free Dinghy (No Motor)

Free 10ft Fibreglass Dinghy on dodgey unlicensed boat trailer. This was going to be a project the boy and I were going to do up. But moved house, bigger boat already in boatport, Garage full, and its got no place to live, apart from me humble little shed... Somethings gotta give.. A man has to have his shed.. so the project is gone.

So anytakers welcome, outboard not included. Real old solid dinghy with numereous coats of glass on it, needs alot of work as you can see, but would've been a gr8 father son project. Have had it out in the estuary as is and perfomed well suprisingly. The donk is to big for it but.

Drawbar on the trailer is pretty long and needs to be cut back as she gets the wobbles up a bit at speed.

Located in Dawesville, if theres no takers bye the weekend, she's going to the tip.

Cheers.

Mark

Payback, remember the spare keys

Just noticed this story on nineMSM

A teenage fisherman has told how he caught a shark only to have it perform a "death roll" and knock his boat keys into the water, leaving him stranded.

Luke Breneger, 17, was fishing with mate Steve Bleakley, 18, near the NSW central coast town of Killcare on Sunday when the pair caught hold of the 1.2m gummy shark.

The teenagers battled their catch for half an hour until finally hauling it onto Luke's 4.2m lure-fishing boat, where the shark made it clear the fight was not over.

"I tail-gripped it, but it started thrashing around … and as soon as it hit the floor it went crazy," Luke told ninemsn.

"It started this death roll and we thought, 'hey, it's going to break something'."

But the shark instead became entangled in a wire attached to the keys, wrapping the line around itself until it had yanked the keys from the ignition and pitched them off the side of the boat.

The teenagers tried to stop the shark's spin but it was too late.

"I wound up having to go all UFC [Ultimate Fighting Championship] and jump on it … I got it in a paralyser grip," Luke said.

"And just as that happened, the line came out."

The gummy shark — a species not known for having powerful teeth — still managed to bite Luke twice but did not pierce his skin.

The stranded teenagers later released the shark after it had calmed down then decided not to call for help straight away.

"We were catching some good fish, so we thought we'd just hang for a bit," Luke said.

When they finally tried to call for help they found their radio signal was too weak to make a transmission.

Finally, after two-and-a-half hours, they used a flare to hail a passing cruiser, which radioed police for help.

Luke joked his initial attempts to explain to police what had happened "fell on deaf ears without the shark to prove it", but the pair were eventually ferried back to shore.

The teenager, who has plans to become a tournament fisherman, was back at school today retelling the unlikely yarn to his peers.

"It's another reason for people to carry a spare set of keys," he said.

Had to laugh.. bet they are glad it wasn't a Mako...

Fly by Wire

Can anyone explain to me please what it is when people refer to the "Fly by Wire" system in relation to outboard motors.

Thanks Undecided

Engines and boats

If you are interested in boats and motors, in response to post on Etecs, see the new Cummins/Mercruiser QSD 2.0 130hp and 150HP stern drives, they are meant to be superb, but pricey, about $30,000 plus. See the new Panga boats made in USA, 7ft 7inch beam, 26 ft long, 1,000kg hulls foam filled, very economical on fuel with either the diesel or outboard. They can be powered by 150hp outboard up to 225hp and get about 1 mile/litre, much more with the diesel. See anglerboats.com or apex panga or andros boats. These boats are improved hull versions of the Southwind style banana boat with full height sides and are wider and longer, but still not overwidth in Australia. They have their own forums on the net.  I have a UB670, but these seem like they are the perfect replacement as I get older.

E Tecs Vs 4 Strokes

Forgive me if this subject has been done to death previously. I had an interesting chat with a mate not so long ago in relation to him re-powering his F/Glass C/Console. Although I dont actually now what HP is talking about, he has replaced his Honda 4 Stroke with an Evinrude E Tec and apparently couldn't be happier with the result. He tells me that is has much more general power then the 4 stroke, giving him a much better hole shot, onto the plane a lot quicker. I was interested to also here that the noise emission compared to the 4 stroke was negligeable accoring to him, not something that was an issue and that was the same in relation to the comparitive fuel consumption. The other matter that got my attention was that he apparently has no obligation to have the E tec serviced from a warrantly point of view for the first two/three years. Overall, it appears that the choice he has made is a good one. As I am considering buying a boat sometime in the near future, and now feel that it is something I have to consider. Prior to speaking with him, I was off the mind that 4 stroke was the only way to go. Just thought I'd throw it open and get some others opinions on this subject.

Doing a trip to Exxy next month, any suggestions on where to stay with dogs (my dogs)? Last time we rented a house not as much fun as a caravan park. Also need to be close to a ramp as I am taking the tub up.

PE Braid

Hi All

At the risk of asking a silly question, can anyone explain the difference between what is often referred to on here as PE_ braid and normal braid if in fact there is any difference. What makes PE_ better ifin fact it is??

Thanks

How is our metro fishery doing?

G'day Fella's'

I haven't been able to get out for quite a few months as every time I'm home the weather gods dicide to turn on the fan and sprinklers. I was wondering how the metro area Mandurah to 2 rocks has been fishing and has anyone had any unusual catches for this time of year.
