He never had a chance
Submitted by carnarvonite on Sun, 2009-07-26 16:27Since he was old enough to poke at the eyes of a sambo through to catching his first pinky and red at Gnaraloo.Progressing to his first dhuey on his own in a dinghy at Two Rocks on to catching cod in the deep of Yallingup and now comes Alex about to follow his father Jeff's example by being a real fishing fanatic
Being a father and grandfather to them I can see the newest grandson Axel following in his big brothers footsteps as well.

serious question on fishing
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2009-07-26 09:27There are lots of reasons people go out fishing and they dont realy know the reason they like it. sit back for a moment and think about the true reason you go fishing weather its on a boat or from the shore....For me its a couple of reasons, getting away into your own little world for a while away from it all, and the chance to actually get out there and catch your own fresh fish for the dinner plate, i know it would be cheaper in the long run to just go and buy some but i spose its the old hunter gatherer thing. also its a chance more so now that its a chance to go out with my wife and or family to spend some quality time together while forgetting about everything else for a while.

UNDERWATER CAMERA
Submitted by cocokye on Fri, 2009-07-24 21:18Looking for advise on camera that I can use whilst diving in water up to about 20mts.Also to have in boat for those shots of the good fishing days and the shots of the days that we should of stayed home. Needs to have a good zoom so I can use it to take some photos of the young bloke body boarding , which is some times about 100mts away from shore( to bloody cold to head out there) .
I seen some underwater photos on this site from various cameras and some are top class shots with several comments on what camera was used ,but cannot seem to track them back down.
All comments appreciated

Discarded Plastics
Submitted by carnarvonite on Thu, 2009-07-23 22:08A shot of a shark that has swam into an un cut plastic strap from a carton/box.Once the shark swims into the circle of the strap there is no way it can swim backward to get it off resulting i it gradually digging into its flesh and in time killing it.The meat on it was just like jelly inside a shark skin bag.Having seen literally thousands of sharks and fish over the years it was definitely in the worst condition of any of them.
Please bring your rubbish especially plastics home with you and most of all cut the straps on any cartons you open whether on a boat or anywhere it may get into the river/ocean environment.

Your single most memorable catch
Submitted by PilbaraBrad on Thu, 2009-07-23 19:58Righto lads, i did this not so long ago but we have quite a few new members now. Here is your chance to gloat a little bit. If you could pic just one fish that you have caught in your life, and ONLY ONE as your most memorable catch which would it be
Mine, still is my PB barra, probably because it took me quite a few years to finally land my first meter plus fish and then when i did i managed another one not two weeks later
104cm, not huge but a great fish for the Pilbara and something that I will remember forever, it was released.

Shark Fishing
Submitted by riptide on Thu, 2009-07-23 01:33hey everybody
saw a couple of pics recently on this site of sharks being caught, released, finned and killed.
honestly, i dont know why someone would do things like that. I'm not a greenie, not a fundamental vegetarian and i certainly love fishing as much as everyone else on this site. but why would you target sharks? some sharks were certainly not caught as bycatch. a rope, chain and 10/0 hook is just not a normal fishing outfit. What do you do if you caught a shark and killed it? throw it back, fin it or put it on a wall? eating it is waste of time, shark soup tastes like crap, and its only the spices anyway that give some taste to it. otherwise its just cartilage and water.
i dont blame anyone for accidentaly hooking a shark, and i know they can be frustrating buggers if every second fish you hook goes to the guys in grey suits. but killing or targeting them is not an option, their role as apex predators on reefs and in other environments is just too vital and endangered by overfishing and a growing asian market for fins.
sorry for letting off some steam, but i needed to say it. I'd rather see sharks swimming around getting my fish than dried and cut up in a shop window.
think about it. and watch "sharkwater". and i still think the fishwrecked logo is cool.
cheers
Chris

Knife Sharpeners BY Ozzy (My Opinion for What its Worth)
Submitted by Ozzy on Wed, 2009-07-22 13:18I have tried alot of knife sharpeners including electric models, thats why I bought the blade sharpener,if you want a quick and fast edge on your knife then the Electric Sharpeners are the way to go for sure ,but if you have a quality knife and want it to last then the oil stone is the only way to go as it removes the least amount of metal, and what the blade sharpener does is keep the knife at a fixed angle so you get the best results using the oil stone, see link below.Thats my opinion for what it's worth.

What do you do for work? Hook a fisho up?
Submitted by Goodz on Tue, 2009-07-21 18:10Dunno if a forum topic has been posted like this before but just thought it'd be good to find out what other fisho's do for work and who knows, maybe we could help eachother out someday! Maybe let us know what you do and where you're located!
Im a subby and install colourbond fences and gates anywhere south of the river (live in canningvale area) and could go a little way north if you're offering beer or a fishin trip in your boat as a sweetner.. haha will give fishwrecked member discounts!
So anyone else?

New Member From New Zealand
Submitted by Accident Prone on Tue, 2009-07-21 13:19Hi guys,
Just thought I would say gidday as I just joined the site the other day.
My names Josh, I am 30yrs old and from Auckland New Zealand and yep just like the rest of you I am mad keen on fishing!.
Most of my fishing these days is jig fishing targetting kingfish, snapper and also deep water specias such as Bluenose/hapuku/bass, I have been jigging (new japanese style mechanical jigging) for almost 3 years now and am absolutely hooked!. I have fished most of my life but jig fishing is definitely my prefered method. I also do a fair bit of soft plastic fishing for snapper and the odd bait and berley session every now and then.
I worked in the fishing industry here in NZ for a while and am currently a contributor to our biggest fishing magazine NZ Fishing News (not sure if you guys get it over there?) if you do keep an eye out for September issue as I have a jig fishing article being published which is going to run over 7 issues (7 months) including links to some instructional short video clips demonstrating a few things.
I also work occasionally as a deckie/fishing tutor for a friends successful charter company "Memory Makers" who are based in Whakatane and are jigging specialists who fish mainly around White Island and the surrounding sea mounts. They also provide accomodation there as well, along with hospitality second to none. If any of you guys ever want to come over to NZ to have a crack at targetting big kingfish then I will be more than happy to help you out with planning a trip - i might even come along for the ride
I joined up to basically get some info on coming across to going Sambo jigging with a few mates and the guys have been very helpful so far so thanks very much!.
anyways thats just a bit about me, i look forward to sharing helpful info and fishing trip reports with you guys in the near future.
Oh yeah, here are a couple of pics of some NZ Kingies
Cheers,
Josh

Ashes Cricket - 2nd Test
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Mon, 2009-07-20 17:04Just putting some good vibes out for the aussies tonight, if they can pull off this win man that would be insane.
The two hunjy runs required is easy enough with a full day of play remaining, just need to see if they can hold on to their wickets. I reckon it's do-able, but close. If Clarke and Haddin can hang around for another 70-100 runs then it's game on!

Plate me up....please!
Submitted by Pete D on Mon, 2009-07-20 07:56Any machinists out there that could help out?
I need to attach my dive torch to a flexible arm for my underwater video case.
After a stainless steel plate (about 50mm long) to be machined up which will slide (nice and tight) into the torch slot.
M6 bolt to be flush welded through plate. Also need a small grub screw.
Sketch;
This orange connector will be bolted to the plate. The connector then ‘snaps’ into the flexible line.
Pic;
Cheers Pete

General Notice for New Members ***Language - Please self censor***
Submitted by Andy Mac on Fri, 2009-07-17 22:25Just an observation of late there have been a fair number of posts with the odd "F" bomb thrown in when completely unecessary.
I know we all use it in every day language but please remember this is a family site with plenty of kids on here.
There isn't an automatic censorship button we can push to covert swear words to #$^% words, so please help keep the site as swear free as possible. Or at the very least try and hide it with a few well chosen $%^&^'s
Thanks

New boating regs in VIC and you rekon we have it bad here in WA
Submitted by mako magic on Fri, 2009-07-17 16:19my brother made me aware of this today
Here is an extract of what they are proposing:
Unsuitable vessels would be prevented from operating in coastal waters. In the absence of information about design standards, vessel
length could be the determining factor in setting limits.
Two possible approaches are set out below.
Recreational vessel Restriction
Length 0 – 4.8m Limited to enclosed waters
Length 4.9 – 8m Limited to 20nm offshore, (37km)
and must have a VHF radio
and be within VHF radio
range of a shore station
Length over 8m Unlimited
OR
Recreational vessel Restriction
Length 0 – 4.8m Limited to enclosed waters
and 2nm offshore in coastal
waters. This acknowledges
the current 2nm ‘within visual
range’ limit for not being
required to carry EPIRBs
and radios.

broadband sounder - what depth
Submitted by Paul N on Wed, 2009-07-15 14:06A question for anyone using hd broadband sounders. I would like to know what depth these sounders read to. My lowrance 107df drops out at about 170mtrs and the screen goes multicolour. I know this is normal but would like to be able to pick up bait balls etc when troling the deep waters off places like Exmouth. All the hype on these sounders shows pictures of the bottom in extreame depths. Is this factual or is it only on top end units?
What unit do you use ,what depth can you hold or what would you suggest for deep water.
Thanks
Paul
