Multiculturism in the family
Submitted by Ashen on Wed, 2016-08-10 13:18With the recent birth of my nephew who is half Irish & half Vietnamese, I've been wondering if other people have a "multicultural family"?
I'm vietnamese and so is my wife. However, I've been in Oz for over 30 years so I'm very aussie, and loving my "meat & 3 veg"! Haha
One of my sisters is married to an Aussie- Filipino. They have yet to have kids.
Another sister was married to an Aussie-Kiwi. They have a daugher who is a very pretty little girl.
My youngest sister is married to an Irish. They just had their first child, a son.
So yes, you can say we have a very multicultural family!
Would love to hear from fellow members and how diverse their family is.

Avon decent powerboat questions.
Submitted by scano on Tue, 2016-08-09 18:05Hi all,
might just be a pipe dream at the moment but wondering if anyone on here has ever had a crack at the powerboat aspect of the Avon descent? I am well aware the race has literally just been run, but wondering if anyone in here has had a go themselves?
i presume there are limitations such as hp rating, boat size, fuel type ect. Just wondering if anyone can give guidance from past experience on ways to potentially have a crack at it next year. Bodie and I from on here would be keen at giving it a crack, just need to get some indicative costs and complexity with getting the idea off the ground.
cheers

On the move again
Submitted by Doc on Sun, 2016-08-07 20:11Last week coming up on the job here in Newman, just as well as there's only so much junk food you can eat. But there's a ripper little take away mob who operate out of a caravan who do superb burgers, but I digress. Looks like a diversion south, wifey has met up with a long lost buddy, so we're going to meet up with them on their farm. Rumour has it the grey nomads are as thick as fleas on a mongrel dog up north. So the chance for another fish will be delayed for a bit.

I'm back!
Submitted by Ashen on Sun, 2016-08-07 13:26Hi guys!
After a few months absence on the forum, I'm now back on the forum. Been busy with life, a young daughter and things to do around the house etc.
My interest in fishing and boating got de-railed the last few months. But still have my Penguin Huntriss and fishing gear, so all is well.
Look forward to chatting to you all again, especially Sea kem! Lol

Summa quits
Submitted by sea-kem on Sat, 2016-08-06 13:59Well it looks like Summa has jumped ship and can probably see the impending Disasterous few years ahead of the club. Gotta wonder if he got along with the arrogant coach and was frustrated that he probably wasn't listened to. He should have been the forward kicking coach if anything. More heads to roll out the door methinks in yet another rebuild lol.

2011 quintrex 490 freedom sport max HP?
Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 2016-08-05 00:10Has anyone got the same boat? If you do could you please tell me what your max hp is on your placard. I'm a bit confused as mine states 80hp max and 182kg max but all my online reasurch suggests 90hp. I rang a few quintrex dealers and they just say if it states 80hp then that's the max I can put on.
If there was a mistake on the placard I would love to get the 90 suzuki for the few extra $$$...

Home Solar systems
Submitted by timboon on Thu, 2016-08-04 12:20FW Crew,
I thought i'd pick your brains regarding what solar system to buy and why?
I know there is a shitload out there but i'm sure plenty of you here have had systems installed.
I guess people that have had them done in more recent times are probably the most relevant but if you have a must do or a must not do for what ever reason of course let me know.
Cheers

Boat trailer insurance claim knock back
Submitted by macca85 on Wed, 2016-08-03 21:54thought I would put up the scenario I've just gone through and see what people's thoughts are on it.
earlier this year I had a bearing fail on the boat trailer (ally I beam 2009 so not old and maintained accordingly - new bearings were put in less than a year ago). The wheel bearing failed coming back from Augusta on the freeway and resulted in the complete wheel assembly coming off, along with the wheel arch and tearing the I beam, along with a lot of ally wearing away in the 600 metres it took to control the trailer and get to the side of the road. Needless to say once it was taken to a boat workshop it was deemed a write off and a new trailer was required (no damage to the boat except for sticker damage from the tyre making contact and thank god no one in other cars got hit by the tyre crossing the middle of the freeway and incoming traffic).
Got the ball rolling with the insurance company and before a quote had even been written they deem they would not cover due to 'mechanical failure'. Now this is where I am confused with why I bother with insurance (this is the first insurance claim of any kind I have ever had for anything). I spoke to a rep on the phone and explained that I agree that I wouldn't expect insurance to cover a failed bearing, as I wouldn't expect a car motor to be covered if it died from wear, however I would think that the trailer would be covered in a scenario like this. They repeated that they still wouldn't cover for this. So I asked the rep when I pick up my boat on the new trailer in 3 weeks time, and 2 months later the same scenario happened would I be covered, he stated that I would not, as would be the case with anyone else covered by them. The part that really irritated me was that they said that they would be able to cover the damage caused to the stickers! What a relief. Don't think that will cover the 9k for the trailer
thoughts on this?

G.O.A.T
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Wed, 2016-08-03 21:21Leading on from Randall's post who do you all think is the greatest player of all time?
My Pop used to say it was hands down Barry Cable but I always thought he had a certain bias seeing as he was his colts coach for Narrogin Imperials but after doing some research recently I genuinely feel that if he had gone to the VFL in his prime then he'd have given Lethal a run for his money.
The issue is that we had three leagues and guys like Billy Walker and Ray Sorrel will never get the recognition they deserve and if Toddy didn't do his knee or Juddy's groin didn't give in then we wouldn't even need to ask this question.

Question about 2c survey for a boat
Submitted by NORUN NOFUN on Wed, 2016-08-03 14:51Looking to see if someone can answer a question i have in regards to getting a used boat to pass a 2c survey.
I was talking to a mate and he is looking at options for a charter boat / sport fishing business in NSW, I guess WA maybe different though.
We were talking about boat types, licences, passenger numbers etc.
I suggested a really nice boat was the 780HT Barcrusher, now i believe you can get these made to survey from new, but
Can a second hand BC 780HT, be inspected and passed to the 2c requirements ?
I believe the 2C is :-
2 - passenger vessel
C -up to 30nm off the coast
If anyone could answer this it would be greatly appreciated and feel free to ask for anymore info i may have left out.
Cheers
Scotty

Boat parking Bayview C Bay

Heading upto Coral Bay at Christmas time for 3 weeks and I'm taking my 21 foot Trophy. We're staying at Bayview caravan park in the dog area. Was just wondering if there are any good sites for getting the boat in and out regularly or is it best to leave it at the boat parking area?
Cheers

Isuzu FSS 550 now FSS110! Anyone used them
Submitted by Bryce Day on Tue, 2016-08-02 19:31Has anyone/is anyone using the Isuzu FSS 550 now 110 for towing 3.5 + tonne boats. Just wondering how it performs. I want to know if it's going to drop back to 70km/h going up hills or anything crazy like that! Spoken to a few dealers and they say they are good trucks and a lot of people use them for towing larger boats! But can't trust all dealers!

Fishing charters out of Brisbane qld?
Submitted by scano on Sun, 2016-07-31 07:40G'day everyone
i have a work trip to the east coast lined up in the near future (staying in Brisbane) and I was wondering whether anyone here had any recommendations on east coast charters? Not really too phased as to what they target for the table, because I am only there for 1 weekend anyway, plus I am fortunate enough to get my fair share of fillets here in Perth.
So from what I can see and read on Google, most Barra style charters are about a 4 hour drive north of Brisbane. There are some saltwater charters out from moreton bay which look OK also. I am keen to know if any members on here have done any 1 day charters on that side of the continent and any recommendations would be very much appreciated.
Not looking for any extended long stay charters, more so a 1 full day charter I can do on either that Saturday or Sunday whilst I am there.
cheers

Sounder problems
Submitted by Cruise Control on Sat, 2016-07-30 18:09Up in Coral Bay at the moment and my sounder has started playing up. It's a Furuno 587 running through 2 x 1kw Airmar transducers. Relatively new with little use.
Was working fine and then the bottom trace just started to get thinner and thinner until it disappeared ! The bottom lock display just got lower and lower on the screen until it was gone. I was running on the 200 so I switched over to the 50 only to have the same problem, no bottom trace. Checked all connections, all dry and tight. Then a couple of hours later it started to work on 50 but kept on drifting in and out. The 200 works but only in water less than 5 meters. 50 works in 200 meters but keeps losing the bottom trace.
I don't know if I have an issue with the transducers, the leads or the head unit. Anyone else experienced anything like this ? I am going to ask around to see if anyone up here has a 585/587 who is willing to help so I can swap over the head units to see if I still have the problem.
I will post up some pics of the screen. It's weird, the temperature graph even starts to fall away. Any advice or help would be appreciated as I am running off the 600w Lowrance sounder in my HDS8 as a backup.
Note how erratics the temperature line is.

Any Turbo Tent owners??
Submitted by Ben01 on Sat, 2016-07-30 13:29Hi guys,
Been looking at a new tent for a while and tossing up between the Black Wolf Turbo 300 plus and the Turbo 240 plus for a family of 4 (2 adults 2 kids under 10).
Just wondering if any of you fellas own one and what your thoughts are and if they are worth the money?? I've seen plenty of the standard sized ones setup in stores and they look of awesome quality.
My only issue is the size - I honestly can't decide whether to go bigger or smaller. At the moment I'm leaning toward the larger model as I can currently get it on special which makes it about $50 cheaper than the smaller model.
Then of course there's the weight of these things and trying to get them on roof racks .... where there's a will there's surely a way :)
Thanks for any advice guys.

Boat trailer slotted rotors? Heat dissipation?
Submitted by scano on Thu, 2016-07-28 22:08Hi everyone,
just wanted to get people's thoughts and suggestions in preventing excessive heat build up of disc brake rotors?
has anyone gone go the trouble of fitting cross drilled or slotted rotors to their boat trailer? In a bid to reduce heat build up and rotors warping ect.
the reason I ask is another fellow forum member whom I fish with very often (I am sure you can all work it out) has had issues of brake pad material coming away when the hot pads hit the cold / salt water. Therefore this leaves the pad material nearly non existent and metal on metal with the brake disc rotors.
if the pads and rotors were far cooler prior to reversing the trailer into the salt water, it may prevent such occurrences? Also by fitting slotted rotors, will it help to prevent brake shudder (much the same as race cars ect)
just wanted to enquire if others are having similar issues of brake pads and their material suddenly giving way prematurely due to being hot and then dunked into the salt water? And if so what they have done to help combat that?
