Cockburn Sound

 Hey fellow fishers,

headed out into Cockburn Sound early this morning. Headed south of Garden Island where the bridge is, heard there was ok squidding there-no joy. Moved around a bit, baby flathead but nothing else. Was rigging another line up and something ran with my line that was in the water, snapped all my gear off, felt pretty big.

Am I doing it all wrong ? Did any one else have any joy today?

daiwa Sensor Surf

 Hi all,

So I've decided to treat myself and get a good surf rod to match a Penn Spinfisher 750 spooled with 30lb Sunline Super Pe braid recently bought. I've narrowed it down to the Daiwa Sensor Surf after thinking past the Penn Prevail series after some average feedback. Can anybody share their experience/review of these rods & possibly if I've missed any other brands offering similar? I''ll be targeting mullaway off the sand, will fish for tailor, salmon, small sharks, etc with it as well- I'll be striving for distance, throwing out livies & reasonably heavy paternoster rigs, won't be spinning at all and am looking at buying a 13/14ft model.

Cheers.

Application Development

Hello All

I know this post is not about fishing, but I have a very good friend that is looking for a software developer... or someone that can develop good business process applications using microsoft sharepoint and who has skills in mobile applications development. It’s not full time but I thought there might be a clever fisho that might be interested in knocking up an application in their spare time (related to the marine industry) while they aren’t fishing. PM me if you know of anyone that is keen to make a few bucks for some work

Cheers

Opinions please

 Hi guys,

Been demersal metro fishing for while using bait only with not much success which is probably mostly due to not having any good spots as yet.

Thinking of switching to plastics or jigs but wondering whether I should stick to bait till I have had success with bait and few decent spots. Guess what I am asking is will I be making things harder for myself  at this stage by ditching the bait.

Thanks for advice

Moore river

 Hey guys,

Know there are the usual bream and those perch things in the river as well as the occasional chopper tailor, but was wondering if anyone has heard or seen anything of size ever being caught there (in the river).

Cheers

prawn light / night fishing light idea - thoughts?

Hey guys, I went prawning last year in my dad's boat and I found the traditional prawn/flounder lights ok to use but had trouble mounting to the boat. With the strong current racing out the dawesville channel I found it hard to position the light exactly where I wanted it.... any way I've come up with a new idea, it can not only be used for prawning but night fishing as the new lights draw stuff all power and are bright! I've done it so it can be placed below the water line when fishing, but then removed for a front spotlight for the way home..

I'm going fishing tomorrow night so I'll post some pics to see how it goes... As you can see from the picture I still need to wire it up but you get the general idea. The suction cap Is 90mm in diameter and fits nicely between the ribs of the boat.

Creating your own Sonar charts?

Does anyone create their own Sonar charts or use Navionics+ or any other programs to create more in depth charting. Would be interested to know if it is worth while in investing in, or just a gimmick.

Any advice would be good.

Boat Fishing License

What's the rules regarding BFL for visitors to Perth. I've got a mate visiting for a few weeks and we're planning on getting out on the boat. Does he need the BFL if it's just for a trip or two?

How does it work on a charter boat, do all the punters have to have a license or does the charter license cover them?

thanks

Wind on Leaders slipping? your experiences

has one out there had wind on leaders slipping out of the dacron using mono main line

i know alot of people who have lost good fish to wind ons slipping and bringing back in only the dacron loop attacted to their plait/bimini etc.

i have had a couple 150lb leaders slip aswell brand new out of the packet.

have many of you experienced this before ?

i have heard and seen myself a few brands where is starts to slide down the dacron and also slipped completely out of the dacron.

i was told by many charter operators who chase big barel tuna and marlin that they dont use wind ons its to risky

whats your thoughts and do you trust them?

if your chasing that fish of a life time using mono main line would you use one ?

STRESS!!

 G'day everyone,

I have a question in regards to the lowrance HDS 10 gen 1. I've just arrived at Exmouth for my annual fishing trip and decided to head out this arvo in pretty average conditions at Tantabbidi. When I turned on my lowrance HDS 10 I noticed the sonar page was blank. No matter what I tried nothing seemed to fix it. It's as though the sounder isn't reading anything from the transducer.

Can anyone suggest anything that may be wrong? The thought of fishing Exmouth for the next 10 days without a sounder scares the absolute crap outa me.

Cheers

Warroora Station

 Hi everyone,

New member to the site, and looks like plenty of people willing to offer some advice, so thought I'd give it a shot.

Heading up to Warroora Station in a few weeks time, and was just after some advice on fishing outside the reef. I've been up there before, but have never ventured out more than about 1km offshore. We've just bought a brand spanking new Garmin Sounder and was just intererested to see how far out we would have to go to pick up some solid lumps witht a bit more depth. Usually just fish around the main reef picking up spanglies(About 5-8meters deep), but last year jagged a Red not far fron the main reef, now we've got the bug and would love to get onto a few more!

Obviously not expecting GPS co-ordinates, but we've only got a 13ft Tinny, so just want a gauge of how far out we'd need to go. (We stay north of the Lagoon, near the cliffs)

Cheers Guys!!!

Rod ideas

Any ideas on a rod for a saragosa 5000. Around the 7ft range  for casting and light jigging (plastics )? Cheers

Quobba station soft plastics

 Hey guys

im heading up to quobba with a few mates in a couple of months and i am wanting to have a go at some soft plastic fishing off the cliffs. I have bought my self a few 1 and 1.5oz jig heads along with some 5" and 6" paddle tails, but i'm stuck on what rod and reel combo to use.  Ive read in a few places that when it comes to fishing quobba it is best to fish heavy, is that still the case with plastics? And what pound leader should be used? Wire...?

Also, what action should i give the plastic when retrieving, and how far should i let it sink?

Any info would be great guys

cheers

Help for a Victorian Fisho?

Hi Everyone,

I am from Victoria and will be heading over to Perth next weekend (Hopefully the weather holds up). I am going to be going out fishing with my brother who just brought his first boat last week. I know a lot of people are very secretive about their co-ords but I was hoping someone could give me some guidance on where to catch some Snapper or Dhufish. The boat can handle going out fairly wide (max 20nm). Looking to head out anywhere metro.

Thanks for reading and  if you want to help me please pm me.

Pilbara Fishing Trip

Guys, I'm driving up to Karratha with my cousin and a mate for a week at the end of June hoping to get stuck into some fishing. We will be staying in a mates Caravan for most of the time and trying all the land based spots around Point Samson and Dampier, however we would like to get out on a boat if possible?

Anyone keen to take us out, know a good contact or know of a good charter in the area? No worries us paying for fuel and bait etc.

We are also stopping by Wagoe camping at lucky bay for a night or two on the way home? Can anyone advise of the fishing there recently, what species? Hoping for good weather, else won't stop!

Cheers for all responses!
