Thought I would put up a few pics of a quick trip to Karratha with me and 3 mates. The trip up was slow with 4 of us in a Craptiva - taking 21hrs to get there towing my 5m Quintrex. Once in Karratha we loaded up with fuel and beer and headed out to Withnell Bay where we launched and spent 4 nights camped up the top of Flying Foam Passage. Over the next few days we found heaps of Saddletail and good Trout bottom bashing, and Macks were everywhere, but they were getting smashed by sharks most of the time. We had a 10ft Hammerhead hand around the boat for about an hour, and got some good footage of it. The species caught for the trip were: Trout, Saddletail, Small Mouth Nannagai, Tuskfish, various Cod, Chinaman, Shark Mackeral, Spaniards, Mack Tuna, Rainbow Runner, Morwong, Golden Trevs, GT's, Blurter Tevs, Various Snapper / Emperors, heaps of sharks, and probably a few others I cant Remember... I was also a bit slow with an in-swinger playing Spud Gun cricket, which copped me in the sunnies.... We had great weather for the whole time we were up there, but it was a long 25.5hr trip back, doing 60 - 70k/hr for most of the night due to Roos / cattle.... I will try to edit some footage and put it up at some stage...

I was privileged to have caught Sambo from the beach at Tims Thicket in July last year (http://fishwrecked.com/forum/samsonfish-mandurah). Having spent a good number of weekends on the boat it was time to get the sand between the toes again and we decided to head off to Preston Beach as we had heard of Salmon being taken from the beach at this venue.

Mate Nic, his wife and my missis and I left Perth on a cold winter’s morning (Sunday 7th July) and set off to Preston Beach. We arrived at this sleepy holiday town as the sun was rising and the temp gauge indicated a fresh 2 degrees. After letting the tyres down to the desired pressure we drove the 30 minutes down the beach to our favourite spot on this stretch of sand. It did not take long setting up our rigs and we were soon into the Herring and Whiting. I decided to swim one of the Herring on the 4m Purglas Executive 10-20kg rod which has a Daiwa Sealine SL50SHB loaded with 24kg Big Game line. I had casted an 8oz grapnel weight to a distance of about 110m before swimming the live Herring down the line. The other rig which I use to target game fish is a smaller and lighter 3.9m Truflex rod has a Ambassadeur 7000i reel loaded with 25lb Maxima line on it. Instead of swimming the bait - I casted half a fresh Herring to a distance of about 60m. Both the rods were placed into tubes and the drags set as light as possible - mainly because I had lost a brand new rig at this same spot a couple of months earlier (http://fishwrecked.com/forum/gear-gone-swimming-preston-beach).

After about two hours of fishing Nic caught a decent Salmon and I decided to use the lighter game fish rig to target Salmon on Mullies. As I approached the rod to rebait the tip of the rod suddenly had three massive knocks and the reel started screaming. I pulled the rod from the tube and tightened the drag as the two snelled 4/0 Gamakatsu hooks penetrated the fish's mouth. The immediate reaction of the fish was to strip off about 50m on its initial run. The net result was me sprinting down the beach trying to retrieve some of the fast disappearing line. After the initial run the fish changed direction and took another 50m of line before I managed to stop it and turn its head. As this was happening my heavier rig took off and Gail wrestled the rod from the tube whilst tightening the drag to set the 8/0 Gamakatsu circle hook into the fish's mouth. Gail battled to lift the rod from an almost horizontal position and I recommended that Nic assist her as I could see that I would be spending quite a while on my fish. The fish on Gail’s rod took almost all the line from the reel on the initial run and she soon had only a very few turns left on the reel. This forced her to fully tighten the drag as the fish continued stripping line from the reel. Unfortunately all the pressure caused the trace to break and Gail lost one massive fish.

After about 35 minutes I eventually managed to bring the fish into the shallows where Nic masterfully put the gaff into its mouth and so landing it with the least amount of damage. I was over the moon with my second decent Sambo from the beach and after a couple of quick pics had it back in the water to revive it. The Sambo was exhausted and it took a good 20 minutes before the fish was re-energised sufficiently to swim off on its own.

The length of the Sambo was 113cm which puts it in the 20kg class.

Just thought i would throw a few pics up from the recent trip to Exy. We got some pretty average wind weather while we where there but still managed to have some fun.

Trout Jigged up from the islands. Got bricked by a few bigger ones.

Toona on light gear in the gulf. Stradic ci4 with 15lb braid and a t-curve revolution rod.

54cm queenie on 4lb of the jetty out front of our house.

Found a school of golden trevs and then the sharks moved in.

Found them again a couple days later with out the sharks. Great fun on light jig gear.

All in all it was a good trip. All fish where caught on lures, jigs or plastics so was good learning curve.

Towed our boat up to Jurien Bay for a few nights. Fished the bank outside the islands and had a great time. Unfortunately, I didn't catch a size snapper or Dhuie, hopefully next time. Might need to work on my skills a bit. I hooked up and then quickly passed on as the reel started screaming what turned out to be a 1.2 metre Sambo!

Went out yesterday from Two Rocks for some more demersal jigging and had a great day despite the weather forecast being wrong!

Good mate Frank came out on my boat and despite the fast drift and sloppy winds/conditions we got fish. Ended up bagging out on Dhufish and breaksea etc!

The Daiwa Pirate and Eupro Pirate jigs working very well yesterday and especially with the fast drift. We had a few assist being snipped off late in the day and one of my metal jigs came back with fang marks ...... mmhhhhh macky's?

Dropped down my pirate jig and within seconds I'm on ....... the fish put up a great fight on PE3 spin and had my new JM Fallings UL rod buckled over. After some fast runs and circle work under my boat I neally had it landed (few close moments near prop) but Franky did well with the gaff and the macky was boated .......... getting that on jig made my day =)

Shit conditions indeed but ended up with quality fish on jig and great company Frank ......... cheers for getting a good pic also mate

Just another installment of a report if you can call it that.

After me pss farting around all week about where i was going the decision was made to head to Two Rocks after i spoken to resident guru Paul G about the conditions and possible ground to go searching - Thanks for your help Paul.

So after me and the another forum member (jigking) purchased some bling during the week  (me a sustain 10000 with Tcurve and the JigKing with the ultimate mouth drool combo of stella 5000 with a fallinga limited jig rod) - and both the mrs completly off us, the jigKing more so with the threat of the water breaking anytime, we give it the she'll be right attitude and of we went.

looking forward to getting our new combos severely worked over we sounded around but not much flare ups all day, just settled on some reefy bottom, ended up getting a size dhuie on bait and on the 5 buk combo which was funny, plenty of Sambos and a nth west blowy which was built bigger than a brick sht house, there must have been some missiles out there because my mates stella and rod were buckled before he was snapped or the hooks were straigtened, i got to feel the power as one of them almost pulled me overboard. Was dirty on me not getting a hook up on the new combo.

The end of the day came and with us already being in the shit from the other half we thought we would dig ourselfes a little bit further in and decided to pull up close in crack a beer, cran the stereo and lobb a muley out, as usual the 5 buck combo came the party again and we had some fun with some undersize snapper, all in all good day out, great weather, good beer and few laughs.

Headed out north of river for a fish today with TimVB and Dean, who answered a deckie call on FW last night. Nice fishing with ya Dean, you did very well mate and it was a pleasure to fish with you. 

Hopes were not that high given the fairly fresh easterly, and white caps greated us on the 3 mile so we stuffed about in close then found a small lump with a nice show that yielded 4 dhuies, 2 oversize, one kept, which was Deans first size dhu. Well done buddie.

The wind dropped and the decision made to head wider, but we never made it.....we were still in close and only went several km before we hit a small lump with a LOT of sambos on it. IT was immediately obvious on the sounder they were sambos, and there we stayed for the next few hours catching and releasing well over 40 sambos........

I dropped PE2 down first....fail! Bricked straight aways so upgraded to PE3 and hooked up immediately.

Not huge but a sign of things to come.....

From here on, it was tripple hookups most drops, most fish hooked up within a few cranks. A mix of ambers and sambos.

Then they started getting bigger.

And bigger......

The day finished with two fish getting bitten off, then a pharken huge great white crruising past the boat, apparently saying thankyou for the free feed. AWESOME sight, thing was like a tank!

All in all a great day with Tim and Dean, and nice to get some very early sambos in shallow water and in close.

Well I had said to Paul G the other day that I am not leaving Telegraph pool until I catch a Barra, well today was the day.
I put a spread of 3 lures out the back and worked the deeper areas (Max 3Mtrs) had been going for a couple of hours and we had 1 strike but lost that after 10 seconds hooked..
We persisted and bang I was on and this was the end result..
Water temp is 19 Deg C and with the rain this year the water is all fresh water at the moment.
So I would say we were lucky to get one... Persistence does pay..

At the end of the day we cranked the fire and cooked the fish... Yummo Delish

Just one of the big Lizards floating around telegraph pool. They are not the slightest bit scared either. Seen another one today and I swear it was 12foot in length..

Went out off two rocks a couple of weeks ago and had a nice day on the water.

Left early to be greated by 15-20 knot  North easterlies (5-10 reported) just out past the three mile mark. With the weather as it was it was decided to look for some new ground in closer than our deeper drop plan. Jigs and bait were the order of the day and after stumbling accross a lone cray pot with a nice 2m bump on it up came a 7 kg Dhu on my pirate jig (NO BAIT ATTACHED TO ASSITS MR HART).  Nice start to the morning , always good to know the esky will not be empty for the trip home.

For the next 3 hours we raised only 2 undersize pinkies , 4 undersize dhuies and a heap of redthroat. The decision was made to go huning again for some more ground and as we headed in closer the weather got better and better. To the point where 5km inland from our original destination it was completly glass. We searched for a while the found a few marks on the sounder so lines away.

2 min later Matt Jigged up a nice 7 kg Dhu on his new Sustain / eupro (spagetti stick). Off it went like a rocket. Good fun watching someone getting smoked on light gear. Matts first Dhu on Jig. He was a little hungry so tried eating his rod.

While Matt was fighting his Dhu, Dan on the other side of the boat hooked up on another 5kg Dhu. His PB and smiles all round. After a quick photo it was sent back to the depths.

While i was taking all these photo's Matt dropped his jig back down again and hooked up again. He maust have dropped it on the fishes head as it was on before he flicked the bail arm over. Sadly though Ping and it was all over. He quickly re-rigged and threw another jig down. Same bloddy thing happened, before he flicked the bail arm over bang. Another nice fight on the noodle rod and up came a 10 kg Dhu. Really dark colourings.

Another 10 Min past and Dan was on again. another 7 kg Dhu and another PB beaten just 20min after he had beaten his old mark.

By this Stage i was getting sick of taking photos and with that said Matt hooked another Dhu and scored himself his third Dhu over 7 kg for the day. I told him to take a photo of it himself as he can go F himself if he tought i was going to take another photo. Hence no pic. With 11 Dhuies bought over board we decided to call it a day and have a nice smooth run back home.

So the moral of the story is not to listen to the average jo blow tackle store salesman who tells you not to bother fishing in northerlies. Not mentioning any names MR HARTLESS. Give it a go and you can have good days on the water.

 im heading up to kalbarri soon and was wondering if anyone has been having much luck? heard a few 60-70cm tailor being taken from oyster reef.

I thought i'd give a bit of a report as I was up at Jurien Bay last weekend for a bit of a long weekender.

I was flicking lures around sunset both Saturday and Sunday night to no avail - absolutely nothing. I also had a cast for some whiteing - nothing again. I think the distinct lack of moon sent the fish to sleep. There was a bit of weed around, but nothing too bad.

After finding out that near on everywhere to get a feed in jurien is closed by 8:30pm I went for a night fish on Saturday (I was hungry), very very quite for most of the time, but managed a little 40 odd cm flatty and a decent tailor (sorry for the crappy night iphone pic) about 10:30pm. Another night fish on Sunday, but this was again very quite, one baby herring and a blow fish...

Was a bit disappointing, but then again, better than sitting about down in Perth - weather was awesome and no wind made for easy fishing.

All in all, an enjoyable weekend.

 mates are heading up to Shark Bay on saturday, anybody fished Turtle Bay and west side of Dirk Hartog in the last couple of weeks.

After much talk of one day getting a couple of trailer boats up to the Abrolhos, we decided the time had come and locked in a few dates to get out and have a go.

The plan was to go with 4 guys (me, Wydra, Wen and JoRn) on 2 boats and spend 2 nights out at the islands. We locked in a series of weekends, but got to the last of those weekends (last weekend) which was the last weekend of cray season and the forecast was pretty average. Swell was 3.2-3.8m the whole time and a bit of wind to go with it. Despite that we made the last minute call to get out there and have a go rather than wait until March for the Abrolhos cray season to open up again.

We met at 3am on Thursday and drove up to Gero. Thankfully the weather gods smiled on us the first day, and we had a good run over to the islands using less fuel than expected.

We set our cray pots to make some deck space, then went for a fish. We were fishing a mix of plastics and metals (no bait rule on both boats!) but found the fishing a bit slow on our boat at first. Some undersized trout and a few other bits and pieces. John's boat picked up an 82cm dhuie and a nice trout, but at the time we were about to head to anchor our boat still had an empty esky. Thankfully we managed to pick up a few redemption trout at a shallow spot on the way to anchor, with two around the 62cm mark and one smaller.

Unfortunately I snagged up at this spot, so I donned the mask and fins and dove down to retrieve the lure - the swirl in the water is me, not a fish!

At anchor for the night having a barbie including some salt and pepper squid made from a couple of squid John pulled.

After many wines and much talk by me of how there were probably fish all around our anchorage, I was goaded into tying on a plastic and having a few casts. I was using a new rod that had yet to be blooded (Yamaga Blue Sniper 77/3 with Stella 5000SW and PE3). After about 3 minutes in the water I got buried in the rocks by something, so quickly found some motivation to fish more. What followed was a really awesome shallow water (9m) snapper session. I think we boated 13 or 15 of the things, all sized, but no monsters. All taken on plastic, and it didnt seem to matter what kind of plastic you threw out there.

At around 11pm or so after having been up since 2am and going pretty hard on the red vino I was about to call it a night, when I got a hit that was much more substantial than the others. After a lengthy fight that featured much swearing and fear that either my new rod would snap or the fish would get me around the anchor rope, up surfaced my PB cobia. A quick pic and he was back to fight another day.

After that it was time to call it a night, so we got a small amount of sleep and woke up with a solid hangover to go and haul the cray pots. Unfortunately the Abrolhos stories of people hauling 20 crays out of one pot didn't come true for us, with us pulling only 11 out of the 4 pots.

We had hoped we could bolster our cray numbers with some diving, so we grabbed the dive gear and hopped in on a likely looking hill that came up from 15m or so right up to the surface. The bottom was covered in Staghorn coral and we didn't see a single cray, so after 15mins or so we decided to relocate. We found another spot in about 6 or 7m that had plate coral all over the ground and we thought we were in for a win. Down we went and there were trout, baldies and dhuies everywhere, but after searching high and low and not seeing a single whisker, we decided to accept our failure and go for another fish.

Both boats did well this day, picking up a range of fish including trout, a makkie on our boat, some snapper, red throat and some other bits and pieces.

The second night while we were filleting the fish, I saw a big shark out of the corner of my eye. The next couple of hours were crazy for sharks, with some smaller models as well as at least 3 HUGE tigers milling around in the spotties at the back of the boat. We had 3 attempts at tackling with these guys, but all ended in tears, and with our supply of shark rigs depleted we called it quits. Not sure whether it was because of the sharks or not, but despite me putting in a lot of casts, we didn't get a single fish that night (just some squid). That night the wind really whipped up around midnight, so we were out there hauling anchor and moving one of the boats so they wouldn't bang together, and almost no sleep was had by most that night.

The next morning was even worse for crays, with only 2 keepers out of the 4 pots, so we decided to have one last fish and then head for home. John's boat had a great session with heaps of pinkies and trout jigged including this double header of pinkie and trout on jig by John.

I had a good session that last morning also, landing a heap of trout including trout of the trip at 72cm and a 60cm dhuie.

The way back in was a hell of a lot rougher than the ride out with the wind having whipped up, taking more than double as long and well over double the fuel (we were pretty close to not making it back on the fuel!) but the slow travelling speed at least meant we could get a couple of lures out the back. We boated another shark makkie and a decent sized tuna, before having both of our wire traces snipped through by suspected wahoo.

All in all it was a good first trip with some lessons learned for the next one. We have an idea how to find the good fish over there now, but just have to figure out the crays! Unfortunately 9 months to wait for the crays, but reckon there'll be a pre-demersal ban fishing trip getting squeezed in sometime soon.

Went out from two rocks in a SW direction till we got to the 40m dropoff area in behind direction bank. Going with the 12Knot  NE wind was good and the forecast was for it to drop around mid morning (Hmmmm)  As we were heading out we passed at least 3 whales fully breaching and saw large spouts here and there. Lines went in heaps of bites from the usual pickers and within 5 minutes or so I landed a nice fat Breaksea cod - thought about putting him back cause I was  there for Dhuies, Baldies and Pinkies first but decided to keep him as he was one of the biggest I'd caught so far.   Kept drifting then got my PB Baldie - a bloody ripper fat 58cm long one. I was wrapped with him, cause I  prefer Baldie over Dhuie for eating.   After not much happening we went deeper into the 50 - 60m line nothing there. Came back in to the 40m line and got a Dhuie   48cm long back he went . A friggin big whale came up about 30m from us so we moved real quick. By then the NE that was supposed to drop was blowing its F$%^&N guts out even harder into a large swell and conditions were pretty miserable and the drift was fast. We decided to come in. Heading in the sun was right in my face and i was a bit worried about hitting one of the many whales around us, I couldnt go fast cause of the conditions though. Coming back I saw something about 200m off our port bow that was definitely dolphin shaped and black in colour but far to big to be a dolphin it was about 4-5 times the size of a full grown dolphin.   Could see it perfectly as it was it full speed leeping through the air over the waves like it was chasing something or in a hury to get somewhere. Id heard reports of killer whales seen off our coast this summer and wondered if Id just seen one but from what i could make out it was black all over with no white patches, an awesome site Ill never forget just seeing this thing power over the waves was incredible. Got back to about 8km off shore in 28 m, we landed two little dhuies around 30cm long then came home. All in all still had a good day, got my two demersals, saw whales and best of all me brother didnt catch a thing 

 Well, what good weather it was. Between that and the cold beer is about as good as it gets. 

Got to the ramp at 7am with the sis and her BF on board. Launched th boat.  Tried to start the boat, wouldn't go.  New fuel, oil topped up, fresh charge on batteries, had spark, but no ignition.  Took 20 mins of profanities and got it going.  She ran sweet after that.  

Powered down to the reef, anchored, burleyed and my mate (on his boat) pulled up an undersize dhu within 2 mins.   About 40 mins pass and no more fish.  No wrasse even.  We moved to about 4-5 different spots with the same result.  The sisters bf got the only fish o the day worth noting.  A 50cm KGW.  Terrible.  

Tried some trolling in close for tailor, had 2 good strikes but no hook ups.  

Loaded the boat on the trailer, get to the wash bay and my hose was completely split, not to worry, finish that off at home. 

Get home, unload all the gear and notice the top 2" of my new jigging rod (never caught a fish) has snapped clean off.  

Shit day.  Over it. 

Next time will be better.  

I've planned and organise a 8 days fishing adventure for my 2 South African anglers in Thailand.

We have 5 days of wild and 3 days of ponds fishing. As usual in any wild fishing trip, ones can come out with the  best route and plans for the trip but unpredictable weather and unexpected catch is what wild fishing is all about.

Ponds fishing is much easy to handle and more relax.

With a nice forecast for Thursday just gone Ryan was keen to jig Two Rocks again where him and Josh (Staff member) did well recently on Dhufish, pinkys, baldchin and sambos inside the bank. The Dameki Backdrops, Lamble jigs and Extreme Occy jigs doing the damage and here's a few pics of that day;

So this time Ryan took me out (Thusday) and the plans were to jig outside the bank from Two Rocks and try some older spots he hasnt fished for a while. As per usual he put me onto the fish and we had an awesome day catching plenty of dhufish to 10kg plus, blackarse, pinkys, sambos and ambo's all on jigs. Lamble and Fisherman jigs doing the damage and here's a few pics of my fish. Ryan caught plenty but wasnt fussed on any pics he just wanted to keep on fishing & exploring.

Ryan's new JM Fallings UL Spin rod is in the background of this pic (middle rod) and its pure quality. I had a quick go of it and geez it works jigs nicely and puts heaps of pressure on the fish but not the angler (I so want one!!!)

 Went for a fish off two rocks this morning. Out around the 50s, just after the skipper landed a good size dhuie a huge great white shark came up to the boat to check us out. One of the most memorable events of my fishing career. 

Stayed with us for around 2 minutes. Have seen them on news, photos etc... But seeing one in real life up close is nothing short of amazing.

This great white must have been pushing 5 meters.

makes me think twice now before I stick my hands in the ocean for a wash.

 Hey guys just wondering about the weed sitch up at yanchep, planning a trip there and from reading up on it on here it sounds like the weed can be problem. 

Any reports appreciated , cheers 

 Decided to put the boat in last night and have a cruise around Cockburn Sound with a mate to see if we could find some pinkies that people say are there. We launched the boat at 5pm at the small Palm Beach boat ramp and noticed that in the shallows off to the side of the small jetty there was two nice snapper frames sitting in the water perfectly filleted. This immediately had my mate forgetting his launching duties and he was straight into rigging his rods for the snapper we were soon to be catching.  FAIL..... we motored around the sound, we anchored up here and there, we burlied up, we prayed to the fishing gods and all for nothing of any merit. We caught 1 x banjo, 1 x Port Jackson, 1 x small whiting, 1 x chopper tailor, and approx 20 small picker wrasse looking things. To top things off a full corona fell over on my dash and poured its contents over my new phone.

This was my fish snapper fishing trip so I guess it was a case of more homework required for the next trip. Some days you win and some days you don't...

We only had a couple of hours together because there were other places we needed to be but the conditions looked good & I just picked up my new Stradic from Oceanside yesterday so was keen to go test it out. It was fairly quiet with only one fish landed between the three of us, fortunately, for me. So this was my first fish on the combo & I'm hoping it's a sign of things to come. Big thanks to SuperPeg for braving the swell & landing it for me.

On our way north I called into the Fortescue River mouth to have a look and see if it would be suitable to launch an 8 mtr boat..
Myself and a mate are looking at launching there in October for a trip across to the Montes and thought it best to check it out while going past..
There used to be a cement ramp there, but not any more.. See below pic

It is quite steep and loose stone, ok for launching but would suggest that retrieval would want to be carried out on or near high tide and or have a second tow Vehicle to get you up the bank.

The one thing I did learn very quickly was that the old Grey Nomads that camp there every year don't like it when the ramp gets chewed up... ;-) Bit of a sore point.. LOL

Hope this post helps anyone out that may be looking at a Montes trip and launching from this ramp..

 Fished the e shed and north mole tonight didn't get a bite...anyone have better luck?
