Everything Jigging
Finally
Submitted by ranmar850 on Thu, 2016-02-04 17:27

Finally managed not one, but several, jews on jig. Well, one of them was complete, sharks got half of the second, and all of the third, at least I got the jig back.
Things had been terrible, I was well north of Kalbarri, worked my way up the shallows, fresh easterly, all the prime pinkie spots had totalled one good hook up and pulled hooks. So i went out a bit deeper, bottom bashed over a really good showing for nothing, so, in exasperation, dropped the pick. The boat swung over a really good showing, five fathoms of solid marks at least, so I dropped a Shimano Butterfly flat fall and was straight into a jew. Then another, then another, then a little amberjack. Four fish, or parts thereof, from four drops. The sounder shot was quickly taken after the first fish when they had scattered a bit. He threw up a heap of scalies.Measured at 75cm. Caught on a Crostage Mastercraft PE1.5-3, with 30lb Fins and a 60lb Jinkai leader off a Spheros 5000sw.

medium jigging combo advice needed
Submitted by Pirate Pete on Thu, 2015-12-17 16:27Hi, im looking at getting a medium size jigging combo to run a mix of soft plastics and octo style jigs. I'm up north so we have pretty heavy current and will be using elevator jig heads around the 3oz mark and octo jigs around 200grams? fshing in around 20m or so of water chasing mid size reefies. Anyone give me any ideas on a good combo around $500 mark. I have a samaki 15-30kg jig rod and 10000 saragosa with 65lb powerpro for the big stuff so just chasing something for the next size down, i'm thinking pe2-3 rod and saragosa 5000? but i'm only just getting into the jigging and plastics side of things so a bit clueless. Cheers for any advice

What stick for oj1500hg
Submitted by Spud72 on Fri, 2015-08-21 12:13Hi guys looking at a new set up... Pretty sold on the reel with 40pound pe2 ocea braid but still not sure on the rod... Leaning towards temple reef mytho plus 62b but other options so far are hots slow style sss63h and NS pioneer range of slow jerk rods... Any thoughts on these or recommend something else? I currently have a hots fake lez 1-3 on a Stella 4000 with 27 pound pe1.2 and love it but want something with a bit more guts for heavier jigs around the 150g mark... The fake lez doesn't really like anything over 90g

Quobba - jigging success?
Submitted by mikegonefishing on Thu, 2015-08-06 10:51Hi Guys,
Fairly new to the forum.
Most of my fishing experience is land based.
Anyway, heading up to Quobba in November for some Sharkie spinning and bottom fishing.
I was thinking high rock could be a good spot to try some jigging although I've got zero experience in this.
I'm wondering if anybody has had success jigging up at Quobba?
And could you point me towards what sort of jigs and gear I should be looking at?
Cheers

What reel should I get
Submitted by Fisha Jima on Fri, 2015-07-31 08:18Hey guys,
i was wanting a new spinning combo for offshore fishing in Perth. I usually target dhuies, snapper, tuna and the odd kingy or sambo that comes past. I want the combo mainly for jigging and bottom bouncing but maybe for a bit of trolling as well. Price range is around $550. Any suggestions?

Recommendations for small/micro jigs
Submitted by ranmar850 on Wed, 2015-07-22 19:55 My experiences with jigging thus far have been pretty ordinary. I've been trying it on and off for a couple of years, between Kalbarri and Ningaloo. High speed vertical knife jigs have been a complete loss--I have a Stella 18000SW on various rods, so i can certainly get the speed, but it has been a lot of hard work for nothing. I've fared a little better with smaller (<120gm) demersal type jigs--most memorable came about when i found an aggregation of small GT's, Brassies and sambos just north of Kalbarri and got some on a flat fall Shimano Butterfly. The same lure also accounted for a Rankins cod and 20Kg Slimy cod just west of Kalbarri. I tried pretty hard with it at Ningaloo this year, mostly using a newly-aquired Crostage Majorcraft PE1-3 wearing a Stradic 4000FJ with 10kg braid. After losing all the Shimano Butterflies ( lumo green) I seem to have adopted a Tekken Seriola 70gm in lumo green with a single assist and some flash as my go-to lure. I've caught a few small gold-spot trevally, a small long-nose emporer, a metre-long blacktip and a few of the smaller emperor species as well as undersize coronation trout. And a baby spaniard--he was foul hooked in the back of the neck, and i think I actually brained him on the drop
The rod is rigged all the time, and used when an opportunity presents itself. Blown away by unstoppables and snipped a few times, as you do, lucky if you just lose the assist. Put wire on, and catch nothing. Or work the jig and watch them congregating around the it on the sounder, odd bump, no hook ups. When they do that for too long, I find a change to a small ball sinker, two snooded hooks and a chunk of gar will change things immediately
I bought a couple of micro-jigs in Exmouth (40gm), lost both of them -to a snip on the retrieve and a small fish being taken by a much larger one. But i think the smaller sizes (100gms or less) are more applicable to fishing around Kalbarri in 30 metres of water or less, so i'd like some recommendations for make/model/colour/size. Demersal type jigging, bounce it off the bottom with a double lift a few times them fast erratic retrieve type fishing is my aim.
All contibutions welcomed.

Help me sort out my jigging set up
Submitted by br3nno on Tue, 2015-07-14 21:37Hey fellas :)
Currently I have a stradic 8000 with 40lb braid and a 30lb fin nor rod.
I want to target demershals such as dhufish and snapper and also sambos.
I'm wondering if I need a 30-50lb jigging rod for the sambos and another spool to put 50lb braid on or is 40lb plenty? I got the stradic as an all round reel :)
cheers

Valley Hill Exploder advice

Has anyone had much experience with the valley hill exploder range of jig rods?
Looking at getting a new pe6 rod, either VH 53XS or 53XXS for sambo jigging but worried the action might be a bit fast.

Jigging Master Sabre Game
Submitted by LMoney on Thu, 2015-05-28 07:31Used a mates PE3 jigging outfit a little while back - rod was a Jigging Master Sabre game (spinning).
Great rod and was stunned when he told me it was ~$200.
Really had my heart on buying one myself but it seems the local JM dealers (eg. Oceanside) no longer stock JM. Then turned to some of the local online JM dealers (eg. Fish Head) but as luck would have it, the model is not in stock and they have no expected date as to when they will next (if ever) have it back.
I now find myself looking at international sellers, but freight is almost same price as rod and if I am spending up to $400 (which I don't plan to) then I may as well buy the next tier up and from a local supplier.
Anyway looking for some advice. Is there another JM option I have missed or failing that, a similar alternative. Thanks a lot.

demon blood 64cj pe2-4 with soft plastics
Submitted by clarky29 on Wed, 2015-05-06 16:53Hi just looking for some opinions on wether the 64cj would be ok for metro soft plastics. Only asking as i am looking for a jigging rod that can do both. I would be looking at running it with a 5 or 6000 spheros or stradic and mostly 60 to 110g jigs. Need to know soon as local shop is having a 25% off all rods tomorrow night and i have 75 in vouchers so would be cheap. If you dont think this would be suitable i am open to suggestions. Cheers

Micro Jigging
Submitted by Uluabuster on Tue, 2015-04-14 22:16Went out to FFB a couple of weeks ago to do some micro jigging. Caught some fish and it was extremely fun when a sambo took off on Pe0.6!
Outfit used was : Gomoku Keiryu (Green) PE0.4-1.0 ( yes, the much dreaded Gomoku in WA! Lol!!)
Shimano Complex Ci4+ 2500S F6 fitted with Stradic Ci4+ 2500 spool ( for more line capacity - I reckon I put in almost 300m of line! Didn't expect the spool to be THAT deep!) and retrofitted with Stradic Ci4+ EVA knob.
Line: Suffix Versa Game PE0.6 (14lb) 150M + various used braid as backing
Leader: Ofmer Fluro Carbon 15lb
Twin Assist with tinsel
Jigs ? - Various, too many to list. I try to deflower new jigs every trip out.

They say jigging catches less desirables - key word here is LESS! This one is caught on 28g slow-fall model.

Anothe undesirable.....falling prey to Ocean Attitude Tamban jig of 20g

Poor man's coral trout! This is a keeper.

Notice the absence of a jig in the terminal ? Was trying this new clip called Mustad Fastach clip as I was getting lazy to fiddle with tiny split rings. The jig can be slotted into the wire loop of the clip easily but somehow, they went missing when the fish was landed. I lost 2 jigs in exactly the same way. Jig jig hook-up! Fought all the way to the surface and there's only fish and assist hook, no jig! The wire loop would still appear attached/closed but the jig would be missing! I have since learn to do without these clips...

Baby dhu struck this Senses slow fall jig of 28g. This one went back to the drink straight away!

This is actually an Iron Candy casting metal. Tried jigging with it and got the stamp of approval from Mr. Sambo!

" Hello, I am Mr. Sambo Junior"

This is actually a $3 Gillies' jig of 25g. Bought this almost 15 years ago and stayed in my tacklebox the entire time! It finally saw day light and proved its prowess big time! Landed 4 species in succession!
Love it when a cheapo works! :)

This sambo too was landed on the el cheapo and took me a while to subdue.

Matching A Reel Up To The NS Black Hole Explorer PE2!
Submitted by sexton on Tue, 2015-04-14 12:13G'day just a quick question fellas...Wondering if a 2500 Stella would match up well to the NS black hole explorer PE2 or will a 2500 sized Stella be to small to suit the rod?

Maxel Sealion two speed reels
Submitted by Jigga on Thu, 2015-02-26 08:34Anyone have any experience with these?
Was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Maxel Sea lion two speed reels? Is there any slop in the reel handle like most two speeds? Does the reel come well greased lined and assembled?
I know the Maxel Single Speed ocean max to be great reel and have been considering the two speed.

help with PE4-5 jig rod
Submitted by Jigga on Tue, 2015-02-24 05:24Hey so I'm trying to choose a light pe4 jig Rod that will jog 80-200g but can handle abuse of 15 lbs to a maximum of 20lbs of drag. Will be paired up with a SHIMANO ocea jigger 2001 nr pg with pe4 Daiwa boat braid.
ive considered:
VH exploder (not sure which model??)
jm ocean devil ul
jm three kings ul
saltywater obx 300 (may be too much rod??)
smith amj medium
i prefer a good tip with full parabolic or modfast action. I like when the bend is deep in the rod it can shutoff off before foregrip but not like a fallings limited where action is too fast...
currently have a smith amj ex (feel it is a lil stiff) VH exploder deep Quaker (awesome rod and tip), & black hole 250 (nice rod).

Swivel or no swivel for jigs?
Submitted by scano on Sun, 2015-02-01 20:19Hi all,
just wondering if if anyone can make suggestions as to the pro's or the cons of having a small ball bearing swivel attached to their jigs for demersals? Obvioulsy a swivel helps to reduce line twist however does it change the action of the jig much? And therefore change the number of strikes from fish?
any suggestions or comments appreciated

Rod talk
Submitted by Nicko350 on Fri, 2015-01-23 20:49Hello all. Long time reader, first time poster. Thought i might as well ask the local legends on their thoughts.
Have picked up a near new Accurate Boss Xtreme 500BX. Seems very sturdy but paired up with a Shimano Trevala is not really happening due to the rod grips and thickness.
Would anyone have any recommendations on a nice rod for jigging 60-70gm on a pe5 line. Used to have a red JM Ocean Devil which was a bit overkill in max 50m water. But still very nice to fish with.
Very cheers fishos!
