Rod for Saragosa 8000
Submitted by bsir on Mon, 2014-06-16 19:48Hey Guys,
Ive laid my hands on a (relatively) new Saragosa with 50ln braid on it. I will initially be using it for some beach fishing.
I was thinking id also use the reel for jigging from the boat.
Any recommendation on a jigging stick that would suit this reel, or is the reel too big for jigging?
Thanks
B

Three Kings March 2014 Aboard Cova Rose
Submitted by Coxy on Sun, 2014-06-15 14:37Back in March we were lucky enough to have booked Cova Rose on its first mission to the Three Kings under Enchanter management. Captain Steve and deckhand Slappy were as keen as us to get up there and tackle some monsters. With one of the better forecasts we have seen we started the long haul north only to have the sounder stop working before we had even reached the Three Kings. Half way around the top of the cape on the final leg we saw something floating in the distance which turned out to be a dead whale, pulling the plastic past in glass out conditions soon revealed dolphin fish flying thru the air after the lures, we landed 5 this first pass then targeted them on small stick baits, metals and plastics.
We ended up landing 18 in about 30mins of fun, Steve had only ever seen two caught in one day before as they don't get many in NZ.

The first couple of days we got some nice kings with a few over 30kg coming on board, it was great watching five Aussie boys with there PB kings under 20kg do battle.
Rob with one of his bigger kings from the trip.

Aerick hooked up on the Jigging Master Fallings MH, saltiga combo to his new PB king.

Dan with a fatty.

Over the length of the trip we tried for swords but didn't have much luck this year, we had some amazing fishing at anchor on light tackle, we tried top water but not much luck but heaps of fun on plastics, hard body's and small metal lures.

Jarrod with a solid king at anchor which took a large plastic right on dark.

One of the nights we saw a few squid hanging around so thought we would have a crack at them, four of us got stuck into them and ended up catching heaps, Steve got up at 3.00am to have a piss and couldn't believe his eyes as we were still fishing, he saw the fish bin full and said he had only ever seen around 10 caught in a night, we ended up with a total of 65 and went to bed at 3.30am.

With a couple of days to go we soon hit the jackpot, we come across a school of large kings not that we could sound them and three anglers were bent over the rail in pain, what we witnessed next I don't think I will ever see again with three kings over 40kg coming on board.
Dan with his weighed at 41kg caught on the Jigging Master Fallings L and PE5.

Jarrod with his weighed at 42kg caught on the Jigging Master Fallings Special MH and PE5 high gear.

I managed to snap this photo of Deano hooked to his monster, the Jigging Master Monster Game L getting seriously bent !

Deano with the end result, weighed at 44kg, the old FA stella still going strong !

Buzz with a 39kg king from the same area.

Getting bent !

With another day it was time to hunt some bass and hapuka down, without the sounder we were a little worried but Steve worked hard and still managed to put us on the fish.
Buzz hooked to a big hapuka on the new Jigging Master Super Tornado H.

Oisin with his 47kg bass the biggest of the trip.

Myself with a 44kg bass.

Deano with a 44kg bass.

We had a wee visit from a pod of killer whales that thought it would be fun to come into the spread and within a meter of the lures.
A big thanks once again to Lance, Steve, Slappy, always a pleasure fishing with the best in the business !
Cheers Coxy

What braid line for Ryoga BJ 2020 with Saltiga BJ64XXXHB
Submitted by fergo on Sun, 2014-06-15 09:33Hi,
i just got myself the above mentioned. was wondering what poundage/PE should i get for this setup? looking to do some light jigging here in WA. Pretty interested in Daiwa Tournament Accudepth 20lbs. any comments?
Lastly, should we follow PE or lbs? different brands have the same PE but different poundage. for eg. XXX brand PE1 and YYY brand PE1 could be 5-10lbs different in poundage. if the rod max is PE1, how do i know which PE to go for?
Appreciate if you guys can help me clarify my doubts.
Thanks!

Travel jig rod
Submitted by Caffeine on Fri, 2014-05-30 11:39I have a selection of JM and other jig rods that I usually take overseas with me but I sometimes run into trouble with the size(Length) of the rod tube as they are all one piece. Last time I was transiting in Singapore they wouldn't let me on the MRT train and had to catch an expensive taxi. I fish some remote locations on some trips and it would be good to have sometime I can strap to a back pack to keep my hands free.
So looking to replace my PE8, PE5-6 and PE2-3 jig stick with ones that more than one piece. Would love one with a parabolic action all the way through to the butt.
I know Okuma has the two piece Salina 3 and I have handled one in the shop but a bit hard to tell the action till you are hooked up to a fish that would match the pulling power.
Any suggestion?
Cheers.

pe2 spin reel
Submitted by robert1979 on Sat, 2014-05-24 13:40hi, looking for a rod/reel to fish 20lb mainly jigging but probably bait as well. Was thinking demon blood saltist 6'4 rod which seems to get a good review in here. I like the look of the catalina reels can only seem to find 4000 size would that be too big for 20lb? I found 3500 size but seems to be for japanese market only. Any other reel suggestions? Stella 4000sw would be nice but a bit pricey.
Cheers

new to jigging
Submitted by wickky on Tue, 2014-05-06 20:51Hello,
Been wanting to start jigging for a while and been reading alot but still really have no idea what i need.
I don't have a boat but work has a 5.9m quintrex that we hire out.
Normally fish out in FFB and around and past rotto. Also when we go up to exmouth for work we normally take the boat aswell.
Max depth would be 80m but mostly around the 20-40m mark
I don't want to spend a fortune on a road as Im unsure how much id use it.
The reels I have are stradic:
8000fj 50LB braid, biomaster 5000swxg 20LB braid, Accurate boss magnum 197 unsure on line class and a stradic 4000f ci4
What would be the best reel for jigging? and what rod would you couple with it.
Any help would be great!
Thanks zac

small/micro jigs for up north?
Submitted by Versus on Wed, 2014-04-30 20:49I'm heading to Onslow in the coming weeks. Have a eupro twincraft, max jig wt. 120gm and a daiwa exceler 4000 with 20lb braid.
I have very little jigging experience but have recently been getting into microjigging (from shore) around town, which is good fun. Just wondering if anyones tried micro/small jigs (up to say 40gm?) up north, and can point me in the right direction as to a few brands or types of jig that I should look at. Guess i'm hoping to target small-medium reef species as my setup is pretty light.
thoughts appreciated, cheers.

soft plastics knot?
Submitted by stano 84 on Wed, 2014-04-23 21:22 hey all hopefully going jigging saturday and going to try and crack the soft plastics cherry , ive only had success with these in the rod holder.... my question is ? do i tie my wind on leader onto my jig head using a perfection loop knot? thus having no swivel/split ring, invoved? or attach it normally as you would a metal jig? also do you jig a soft plastic like a metal jig? only slower lifts more twitching and drops? im jigging mainly for dermersals, any help is muchly appreciated.... and yes i know theres a search bar to the left....haha

Help with rod choice
Submitted by mikey- on Mon, 2014-04-21 19:12Have done very little jigging, but keen to do a little more and wouldn't mind getting a propper jigging rod.
Will be matched to a 4000 Caldia running PE3 braid
Can't really see myself using jigs much heavier than about 150g for awhile.
Budget would be $200-300, but preferable closer to $200.
I understand I won't be getting anything too awesome in this price range, but can anyone recommend a rod??
Cheers

adequate drag on spin reel for jigging?
Submitted by Basto on Mon, 2014-03-17 13:25Hi fellers
What do you reckon is the minimum drag needed on a spin reel for jigging?
I know this depends on country and fish size, so I`m talking bigger fish in rough country.
cheers

Night Jigging
Submitted by Uluabuster on Thu, 2014-02-27 07:33Hi guys,
I sign up for one of the charters to do night fishing - it's a corporate social event. The plan is to bring my jigging gear and Sps.
Seems like we will be targeting snappers -around 120m mark.
Was wondering if anyone has done jigging in Perth waters around Rottnest before ? How about SPs?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

Leader Size
Submitted by jayce on Mon, 2014-02-17 19:23Hey All
I have just recently purchased myself a new JM Powerspell reel. The reel is spooled with PE5 Nitlon braid.
My Question is what size leader should i be running with this line? I havnt heard of Nitlon braid until Blake put it on the reel so not sure of its actual breaking strain. Would 80lb leader be alright or should i go heavier. Will mainly be for Sambo/kingy jigging?
Cheers Jayce
P.S Just want to add a big thanks to Blake at Oceanside. Awsome deal on the reel. Only downfall is now im not allowed to go shopping with out supervision haha.

Keeping the jig vertical?
Submitted by Aidos 95 on Tue, 2014-02-11 12:56Hey guys, just recently decided to try out the jigs and soft plastics, purchased myself a stradic 5000fj with saber game jigging rod. I did do my research before heading out on the boat for the first time with the jigs, and a common tip was to keep the jig and plastics vertical, how ever I struggled to keep my jig vertical , I was only fishing in 20ms and wind was not a big hassle on the day with a pretty slow drift, while using 100 gram jig and even got to a 2oz plastic
Could it come down to a rookies technique? Or maybe the we were drifting too quickly ?
cheers aidos
