Where to Buy QL Trim Tabs?
Submitted by Lucky Tim on Fri, 2011-01-21 13:18Hey gang
I've been searching the 'net for a Aussie seller of QL Trim Tabs and only US sites come up. While they are cheaper the $200 or so they want for postage doesn't make them so cheap anymore.
Has anyone here bought some and from where?
Or does anyone have a set for sale? My boat will take the 450 but the 300's will suit a bit better I think.
Cheers
Tim

Oils aint Oils
Submitted by Terry on Wed, 2011-01-19 16:57Gday
I have a Mariner Optimax outboard motor and have been using the recommended brand name oil in it.
The oil is quiet expensive as you may know.
I was wondering what other oils ( shell, caltex etc) of the same grade , you may be using in your Optimax engines.
Cheers

Boat Trailer Rollers
Submitted by bowds on Tue, 2011-01-18 09:49I need some new rollers for my trailer as some have either fallen off or been knicked.
Just wondering 1) where is a good place to get a good price on rollers? 2) What is the go in regards to bringing your boat there? Do you just buy them and install them yourselves at home or do you bring your boat in and they do it for you?
I think I need 4 new rollers.

trailer setup for fibreglass boat
Submitted by axl100 on Sat, 2011-01-15 16:48
I was wondering if anyone could help me with the setup of my trailer. I find that when I retrieve my boat it can be a bit of a bitch to get it square on the trailer and sometimes it don't sit right. I don't know if the cotton reel rollers are right or the skids. I have 4 cotton reel rollers in the middle and the hull sits on 3 of them. At the rear there is a skid each side and some wobbles.

Fishing Accident, Boat Insurance
Submitted by crasny1 on Sat, 2011-01-15 13:26Damn it. Great trip out to get home and discover that your favourite overhead/rod combo is mising in action. Blown off the Rocket launcher, bumped off, stolen at the ramp etc dont know. What is known is it was on the boat and now the Twin speed Saltist (brand new) and 8-10kg Diawa Monster Mesh (brand new) is not home with us.
Certainly wasnt lost in action because it wasnt used that particular trip, but it was there to complete the "Golf Bag".
Does anyone know if an incident etc is claimable with top cover with Club Marine. This combo was $1G plus.
Pissed off to say the least.

Hydrofoils for outboards
Submitted by diver albie on Fri, 2011-01-14 19:08OK, I've asked boat shops, Whitworths and guys at boat ramps and never seem to get two answers that match so I decided that the answer is to go straight to the source of all knowledge, the internet.
Has anyone fitted hydrofoils to their boat and do they work??? I have a 4.7m Pacemaker with a Johnson 70 on the back and to be honest it goes well. But the number of people who tell me to fit foils to it to make it plane faster, stay there at lower RPM and save fuel not to mention it will be more stable at anchor is amazing. However I get the odd negative as well, Hayway Marine actually went as far as to say it would make the boat dangerous and unstable.
So come one, come all give me real life examples, pleeeeease.

How fast do you travel in your boat off Perth
Submitted by bradz on Fri, 2011-01-14 10:44Hey guys
You read on alot of forums that guys wont put an engine on a boat unless it can do 40 knots. I have found that off Perth and the West Coast (southern half) you normally cant do more than about 25 knots without having a really uncomfortable ride.
As I am looking for the right motor for my new boat (575 Cruisecraft Outsider) I was seeking some input on what sort of top speed is acceptable.
Sure, you occasionally get the glass off's when you can sit on 40 knots but would you consider 32 knots as too slow to expect as a maximum speed.
I am considering fitting a 130 Etec reckon I'll get around 34 to 36 knots out of it on a good day. What is your opinion.
Cheers
Brad

stabilisers for dinghies
Submitted by fishnut on Wed, 2011-01-12 11:19I've heard a few reports of dinghies tipping recently so, I thought these are an excellent idea and thought it was worth sticking them on here. Better still, they are made locally. There are some other inflatable ones made over east, but these are polystyrene - no punctures!

Getting up on the plane
Submitted by iana on Tue, 2011-01-04 18:05Just wondering what speeds others get to b4 getting up on the plane. With the bow trimed down my boat goes on the plane at 9.9 Kts then takes off to 22 knots. I would like to be able to travel at 14 knots in the choppy conditions of cockburn sound, but the boat wont let me. Can going on the plane be prevented?

Trim Tabs and Beach Launching
Submitted by mack on Sat, 2011-01-01 13:41G'day all.
New to the forum and seeking some opinions.
I have a Bar Crusher 560 and am considering putting trim tabs onto it. The trouble is we beach launch whilst we are up North.
Has anybody had any experience of beach launching with trim tabs on. I reckon they could easily be damaged?
The beach is calm and protected, but is also pretty shallow.
Thoughts appreciated.
Cheers

Cant steer my boat
Submitted by Outlaw II on Fri, 2010-12-31 09:24Gday all and I hope you all had a good chrissie
I just returned from working in exxy for 3 months and had left my 17.5 ft haine hunter in perth and my return i found out why it was a bad idea to leave the boat dormant for that period.
Flat batteries - fixed that pretty straight forward
Trailor - though it might be a good idea to replace/regrease the bearings however my boat has an axel with thos greas nipples on the ends. When i took the wheels off i discovered that i cant get into the bearings - do i need to or do i just fill the void with grease and use the nipple to pump it in.
Steering - i have no steering it seems to have siezed up. Not sure what to do here as it feels as though something will snap if i try any harder?
Any help with all or part of these problems will be much appriciated
Michael

New boat decision
Submitted by alex.bern on Wed, 2010-12-29 05:04Gday all,
I'm looking at replacing the old Savage Gannet with a bit of an upgrade and I've got it down to 3 contenders; the Makocraft Frenzy 470, Stressco Renegade 445, and the Horizon Northerner 470, if anyone owns either of these boats I would like to hear your opinions of them.
Cheers and tight lines.

Help-URGENTLY need skipper & boat or just hire boat for Rotto Swim
Submitted by stephieb on Mon, 2010-12-27 13:15Hi. Would anybody (or anybody you know) be interested in skippering or hiring out an appropriate boat for the Rotto Swim on the 26th of Feb 2011? We (team of 4 females) are looking for something quite urgently following our current boat arrangements falling through. Our team has invested a lot of time and money so far and we really don't want to have to pull out : ( We need something at least 6m long that can carry a minimum of 6 people - that said, beggars can't be choosers so we would take what ever we could get and we would pay all expenses plus a generous hire and skipper fee. Please let me know if you can help. Thanks, Steph.

portable fuel tak refilling
Submitted by crabking on Fri, 2010-12-24 21:08Does anyone know of any regulation for refuelling portable tanks in the boat - I am looking at putting a 50+ litre tank in my boat to give me a bit of range - there is some discussion (Eastern States ) about not being able to refill portable tanks unless out of the boat (on the ground) which may be ok but lifting a full tank back onto the boat would be a bit difficult?
Any info greatly appreciated
