Woodmans Point Ramp.
Submitted by LandyAndy on Sun, 2011-09-25 18:40Hi Guys.
Is Woodmans Point ramp still a bad spot for theft????
Are week days this time of the year fairly high risk???
What about Point Peron,or a better place to be able to come back to a vehicle and trailer as it was left???
Thanks
Andrew

Drum winches-who's got one fitted?
Submitted by smash on Sun, 2011-09-25 08:40Im in the process of fitting a drum winch to my boat and was wondering if you have trouble with the rope bunching up in the middle of the drum and how to avoid it?
Im making up a fairlead/bow roller setup for mine, to suit a claw anchor, and am thinking that if I use grooved rollers its going to direct the rope only to the middle of the drum and bunch up?
cheers for any info/pics!

Ali Brite on Glass Hull
Submitted by chris raff on Fri, 2011-09-23 08:17Hi All...have a tinny we are going to clean up with Alibrite this weekend...whilst googling it came across this bloke who apparently used it on his glass hull with good results..
Alibrite is a etching type acid cleaner ...I would've thought it be a no go on glass...anyway curious ...has anyone here guinea pigged their old glass hull with it...
" Ali Brite
My local fiberglass boat repair guy mentioned that he uses Ali brite to clean slight discoloration on fiberglass boats. I asked my wife to get some and it says it is an Ali steel cleaner with poison written in big letters. Is this right for cleaning fiberglass. Has anyone out there heard of this, apparently you spray it on leave for 10 minutes and wash it off with water.
Oh well no replies so I tried it this weekend. Sprayed Ali Brite on left it for 10 minutes hosed it off and any yellow staining vanished with no scrubbing plus left the surface gleaming white "

Engine problems, Evinrude 140 V4 ( 94 model according to the manual )
Submitted by fishboy009 on Tue, 2011-09-20 20:01Hey everyone,
I have a slight issue with my engine, it's old but still runs fine most of the time, I have an alarm going off in the remote, it's a rapid short tone.
In the manual it says it a oil flow problem, but have spoken to one mechanic and he says it could be a number of problems, i.e air or water in the fuel even the remote could be sending dodgy signals.
Last time i was out it cut out on my while going along but started again fine and kept going.
Was wondering if anyone has had this engine with a similar problem or have heard of the problem.
Any help would be fantastic..fix it and i will take you out fishing.
Cheers
James

I've got a 13ft forward control dinghy, and when i fish with another person, it gets very cramped. I've put in an artificial floor which is about 20-30cm above the aliminimum floor, but not sure how to capitalise on this space.
Any ideas like compartments under the floor, in the big horizontal seats etc etc.

Where to put the Watersnake ?
Submitted by the_dude84 on Sat, 2011-09-17 00:17I bought a cheap runnabout(1980's dehavilland 15ft with a 1999 25hp 4stroke merc) back in july and have slowly gone about getting bits together to get to how i want it to be. Anyway i wandered into a garage sale the other day and they had a 54lb Watersnake for sale for $100 so i grabbed it. It's just the basic model with the clamps. Does anyone have any advice on how to mount it in the rear of my boat? I have put it on and out of the way from the main engine but when i tryed it out i span around in circles!

Parking boat on a sloping drive
Submitted by joycey on Fri, 2011-09-16 17:39Hi guys,
After some advice.
Looking at buying a house with a sloping concrete driveway with an incline of about 30 degrees.
Would want to park boat on this driveway ( fibreglass cabin boat between 5 - 5.5m on trailer).
Does anyone have any experience/advice regarding this ?
Will it be safe, would I need some sort of blocks under the wheels, or is it not advisable.
Thanks for any advice
Joycey.

Problems bleeding hydraulic steering
Submitted by dkonig82 on Mon, 2011-09-12 20:10Hoping someone can help me out here!
I have a Seastar Teleflex 5345 hydraulic steering ram. It was weeping fluid, so I bought and fitted a new seal kit.
I re-mounted the ram to the boat, and have run into some issues when bleeding it.
Have followed the instructions and done the following
-open filler at the helm, pour in fluid, turn steering wheel fully clockwise till ram extended fully on starboard side,
-cracked starboard bleed nipple, let air out whilst turning helm anticlockwise till you just get clear fluid
It then says you need to do the same on the other side, ie start turning anticlockwise, until the ram is extended fully on port side, however no matter how many times I turn the wheel, anticlockwise, the ram doesnt move.
I thought perhaps it still had air in there, so tried to move the motors manually, and they are seized in position (they were not before I bled the other side of the ram).
Hopefully I have just done something stupid, like connect the two hydraulic lines the wrong way around, which is possible as they are almost the same length and were not labelled. However, I figured if that were the case, I'd not be able to crank the wheel anticlockwise anymore (but I can turn anticlock, I cant crank clockwise anymore, which is correct as ram is extended to the starboard side).
Someone please help! Want to get her back on the water asap!
Thanks
Dan

boat insurance
Submitted by silly on Fri, 2011-09-09 08:59I have a 2001 4.7m trailcraft with 70hp 2 stroke Yamaha outboard which i believe is underinsured at the moment. I'm basing this purely by just having a look around at others for sale at the moment tho. I called my insurance company and they said they need a written valuation for me to increase the insurance value of my boat. Now where do i go to get a valuation? And how much does it cost?
Oh and this is the boat... how much you reckon its replacement value is??

'93 Bermuda with 120 Force Motor
Submitted by Hook1 on Thu, 2011-09-08 15:01G'day All, I'm looking at buying a '93 Bermuda with a Force 120 motor from my neighbour for $10 000. I haven't heard of either company before but it appears they were packaged by Quintrex and Mercury. The boat looks solid enough but not sure about the motor. My neighbour hasn't used or maintained the boat well in the last few years. What suggestion can you offer me in regards to the boat, motor and the price? Your comments would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Hook1.

Buying a travel tinny for on the roofrack of our station wagon
Submitted by flyingdutchfisherman on Thu, 2011-09-08 09:10hey guys
Me and my friend gonna travel from Cairns to darwin, Broome and down to Perth. We want to buy a tinny which fits on the roofrack of our car. We have a station wagon with a normal roofrack.
Do you guys have any suggestions for what sizes and what kind of material the tinny should be? 2 guys should be able to put the tinny on the car and strap it on the roofrack.
Of course I also need a small engine. I asked the locals in Queensland and they told me under 6 horsepower you don't need a licence. But I want to use the tinny to go a little bit further out from the shore. Not too far beacuse it is still a tinny and on nice calm days I can boat around rocks, cliffs and .. Just to go little more further out than you can cast from the shore :P
I thougt maybe if I buy a little bit bigger engine like a 15 horsepower or maybe a 20 or whatever and I put a sticker on it from 6 Horsepower engine. Do you guys think I could get real big trouble with some coast guards or someone else? Or you guys think I need to stick to the 6 horsepower engine?
I never had or bought a small tinny.. So any tips where I should keep an eye on or any tips are really welcome!
cheers

Nico,s boat rebuild thread part 2
Submitted by nico on Tue, 2011-09-06 19:18Well it has been a slow process with this crap weather we built the pod mould out of 17 mm malamine brushed in the gelcoat a few weeks back ,tie layered it with 600 csm then a few more layers later in the week . once this was done layed in the stitched cloth x2 and moe csm then cut out the ply for the trany pulled it back on wet glass and glassed over the top next step was fit three 15 mm stringers glass them in and right angle to support the pod top.Released the pod and then glassed it on to the hull with 9 layers and through bolts which will be done later in the week. 15 mm floors been cut out and glassed both sides with csm .A bowsprit mould was made and now finished with the same materials as the pod it should be able to with stand some punishment.
I was a bit suss on the stringer system so have layed 600 csm x2 and stitched cloth through the hull and up the sides of the glass stringer system this has stiffened the hull up and will be rock solid .Plans have changed as we are keen to be in the water for christmas and get in some good fishing over summer so scratched the wave braker idea and eskies for now so we can get out on the wate rand will do those next winter. Floors should go in this weekend with 1 layer over the top of csm and 2 strips extra around the edges one a stitch cloth i have seen to many boats floors crack and delaminate in this area from hard conditions and not enough material being layed down . the windscreen is having new tinted perspex cut as we speak and now making the pod top which should be done in two weeks .the glass fuel tank will be last with Vinylester resin and powder bound cloth will keep you posted on that one as it progressesi will have to stop for acouple of weeks as i am flying home to cairns for a break and a dose of Black Marlin fishig and any other species i can bag on the way tight lines boys the count down is on 10 days to go.

Trophy Walk Around.
Submitted by hamo on Sun, 2011-09-04 21:15Alright, this is a kinda of ' is this what I want ' thread -
Can anyone offer any information on what it's like to own a Trophy boat ? I've looked at a 2102 walk around and am getting the feeling it's the right boat for me, It ticks quite a few of the boxes that I require it too. The kind of info I'm trying to find is with regards to how they ride, The hulls look the goods but do they hold thier own in the rough stuff ? They're ( I presume ) a heavy vessel, do they need a bit of grunt behind them to get them going ? ( IE: Do I NEED 200hp on the back or will 150 do the job ? ) Any common problems ?
I'm looking at upgrading from a 5 metre plate boat, which realistically doesn't ride so well, but is so well put together it just soaks up any punishment you throw at it and asks for more. It's got a 90hp on it and has no problem doing 28-30 knts on a smooth day with 4 on board. It's a great little boat but I'm looking to go wider, and take extended trips away and as good as it is I would'nt be comfortable doing a trip to the Montes in it.
So is there anything I'm not taking into consideration that I should be ?
Thanks in advance guys
Adrian

Polycraft
Submitted by Swan River Fisher on Sun, 2011-09-04 13:22Hi guys
Have been checking out the Polycraft plastic boats, mainly the 3m Tuff Tender or the 4.1m. Are these boats in general any good? Does anyone on here have one, and how do they ride? I've heard that they absorb up the bumps and ride really well?

Mercury Problems
Submitted by Swan River Fisher on Wed, 2011-08-31 15:24Hey guys
I have a 3.9m runabout with forward steer and a 30hp merc
Whenever i run for about 15 minutes at about 70% speed, it starts to cut out and choke a bit, with the boat going forward fast, the stopping suddenly. It seems like there is not enough petrol going to the engine. it is fine at low speeds say under 6 knots. It is a newish 2006 2 stroke model. I have also put a fuel filter on it, and it has been serviced just last week.
Any suggestions to why or how this is happening?
Much appreciated
Benno

Advice on getting boat checked over
Submitted by joycey on Tue, 2011-08-30 21:36Hi guys,
Will be looking at buying a used fibreglass trailerboat in the 5-5.5m size soon and want to get both the boat and outboard checked before making a purchase.
Can anyone recommend a boat surveyor for assessing the boat and a marine mechanic to check the outboard in the Perth area.
Cheers,
Michael.

Stormy PFD
Submitted by crasny1 on Tue, 2011-08-30 06:33Bloody hell had a nasty nightmare. Thought I lost the Mrs overboard and some may say thats a blessing, but I have always thought about wearing a PFD. Can anyone point me into the right choice for a light PFD. I was looking at the
ISO180N Premium Yokebut it looks bulky. What are the Yakers using.
By the way Above the 26th Para showed how much fun this could be and well worth it from $15 postage and handling included.
